Josko Gvardiol hasn’t been at Manchester City for long, but he’s outlined how Pep Guardiola has already helped him improve.

Gvardiol became City’s second-most expensive signing when he joined from RB Leipzig for £77.5m. Although a centre back by trade, he has been operating at left back since joining Manchester City.

Now he’s with Croatia for international duty, he’s back playing centre back. When asked how Pep has helped him improve his game, Gvardiol said:

“I still have a lot to learn from coach Guardiola,

“The most important thing is that I brought a dose of calmness to the game of the national team. This is what is required of me: to move forward as simply as possible and do the defensive part with [Josip] Šutalo.

“I like how he deals with each player. He cares, like every coach. It tries to fix every segment in the player. We can see calmness with the ball in every player, they are not afraid to play with the ball. This is what makes Manchester City special.”

Gvardiol The Perfect Fit?

Gvardiol came to Manchester with a big price tag, but it looks like he’ll be the perfect pick for City.

As most Premier League managers know, a left-footed centre back can be crucial. City have found a left-footed centre back who can fill in the gap they have at left back. He’s calm on the ball, like every Pep players need to be, but he also possesses great strength and pace.

It’s early into his career at City, but it looks like they’ve signed a player who will develop into one of the best in the game.
