Jamie Carragher has given his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer business and questions the £60m spent on Brazil international Richarlison.

Spurs suffered yet another disappointing night in the Champions League, as they were eliminated by current Serie A champions AC Milan. Antonio Conte’s side failed to score a goal throughout both legs and the Italian’s future is now in doubt.

One player that is yet to prove himself in north London is Richarlison, who is yet to score a Premier League goal after signing in the summer. The Brazilian made his thoughts on his current situation very clear, giving a scathing review on his manager in a post-match interview on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old said: “Against Wolves he played me for five minutes, I asked why and they didn’t tell me anything. Yesterday he asked me to do a test at the training ground, he said if I did well he’d play me, and when the match came he benched me. These things are not understandable.”

Sky Sports and CBS pundit Jamie Carragher, who has previously criticised the Spurs player, gave a very damming review about the clubs’ transfer business. Using Arsenal as a comparison with Gabriel Jesus having more of an impact than the Spurs striker:

The former Liverpool defender said: “Then they paid £60 million for Richarlison, the man who plays No 9 for Brazil, to be a back-up striker. Arsenal bought his international understudy Gabriel Jesus for £45 million.”

“Who made the smarter purchase? Spurs have fallen way behind Arsenal because of poor football decisions and erratic performances, not lack of investment.”

With Antonio Conte being rumoured to depart and Harry Kane being the subject of relentless transfer speculation, Spurs will need more from their record signing.
