ITV Racing Tips From Haydock On Saturday – 1-2-3 Best Bets On 17th February 2024
2:10 Haydock: Virgin Bet Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle (Go North Grey Bomber Series Qualifier) (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo) 1m7½f ITV – SALVER @ 4/7
SportsLens (Kyle Curran) 1-2-3 Tips: SALVER looks to be heading to the Triumph Hurdle for the Gary Moore team next month at the Cheltenham Festival and this looks to be the perfect prep race for it.
The classy looking four-year-old is unbeaten over hurdles since joining Moore’s stable back in November and looks to be a real star in the making.
He was last seen beating Balboa at Chepstow when taking home the G2 Coral Finale Juvenile Hurdle back in December. Salver won that day by 21 lengths and was no match for his four rivals and he should take all the beating in this one.
Castlefort ran very well at Chepstow last time out and should be involved, but this is much deeper waters. Kuzco should be watched in the market on British debut for Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero and could outrun his odds.
- SALVER @ 4/7
- Castlefort
- Kuzco
2:40 Haydock: Virgin Bet Rendlesham Hurdle (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m½f ITV – BUTCH @ 7/2
SportsLens (Kyle Curran) 1-2-3 Tips: BUTCH is our pick in the next as Olly Murphy’s charge looks to make it four wins on the spin. He has picked up back-to-back wins over 3m at Cheltenham, and can still improve further.
This lightly-raced seven-year-old should face no issue with the heavy ground forecast either and that can play into his hands as he looks to pick up a fourth straight win.
The race also comes at a time where the Murphy stable is in fine form. His horses are running extremely well and the yard is currently operating at a 31% strike rate.
Botox Has enjoys it at Chepstow and has winning course+distance form in his sole run here and is feared. Meanwhile Sounds Russian was last seen falling in the Cheltenham Gold Cup last year so returning to hurdles is interesting 11 months on.
- BUTCH @ 7/2
- Botox Has
- Sounds Russian
3:15 Haydock: Virgin Bet Grand National Trial Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m4½f ITV – HIGHLAND HUNTER @ 12/1 (e/w)
SportsLens (Kyle Curran) 1-2-3 Tips: HIGHLAND HUNTER loves the testing ground that is expected on Saturday and he has been running relatively well bar unseating Paddy Brennan two starts ago.
He returned from a huge 620-day layoff back in October, finishing a good second in the Edinburgh Gin Chase at Kelso before unseating in the Becher Chase at Aintree.
Fergal O’Brien’s charge then finished fifth of six last time out at Lingfield when beaten by L’Homme Presse, but he jumped well that day and the 36l defeat wasn’t as bad as it looks on paper considering he is more suited by a further trip.
Going back up in distance here should aid his cause and the trends for older horses in the Grand National Trial point to a good run from Highland Hunter.
Famous Bridge is unbeaten in two starts here at Haydock and enters calculations, with Snipe likely to be heavily involved too off bottom weight after a series of solid runs this season.
- HIGHLAND HUNTER @ 12/1
- Famous Bridge
- Snipe
