The relative of the legendary Faugheen is set to make her racecourse debut at Punchestown this Monday as Willie Mullins sends Maughreen to the Mares’ Bumper in the final race on the card.

Relative Of Faugheen (Maughreen) To Make Debut At Punchestown

Faugheen, trained by Willie Mullins was rated the best two-mile hurdler of the 21st century after winning the 2015 Champion Hurdle and back-to-back Christmas Hurdles in 2014 and 2015.

The Rich Ricci-owned gelding went on to win 17 times for connections including 11 Grade 1s, and it is fair to say that he was one of the best we have ever seen over hurdles. With over £1.1million in career earnings, there will be some hope that any relation to him could be just as good.

Now his relative has been declared for her racecourse debut at Punchestown at 4:00pm on Monday 15th January. MAUGHREEN is owned by the Clossuton Racing Club and will be ridden by trainer Willie’s son Patrick Mullins.

She comes from a top family being a daughter of Walk In The Park and out of Molly’s Mate – with her first two foals to race both being winners. Sweettowatch was successful in a Bellewstown bumper, meanwhile Blow Your Wad recorded a victory in a good handicap chase at Kempton on Boxing Day. Maughreen’s dam is a half-sister to Faugheen, so this should make for an interesting watch.

Who Does Maughreen Face In Punchestown Bumper?

In what looks a hot little bumper to close the two-day card, one rival to note is Instant Tendance from the Gordon Elliott yard.

She remains a maiden after four runs, but showed promise when second of 18 last time out on New Year’s Eve. The daughter of Joshua Tree cost €125,000 back in 2021 and could get off the mark here. See the full field below.
