Granit Xhaka has sent one final message to the Arsenal board before his transfer to Germany, after the Gunners were just beaten to a shock Premier League title by Manchester City.

The former Arsenal captain has enjoyed his best season with the Gunners to date, but will say farewell to the Emirates on Sunday after seven years in North London.

Despite this being Xhaka’s best personal season for Arsenal with seven goals, his side failed to win the Premier League after being ten points ahead as Manchester City lifted the trophy for a third straight season this week.

With Xhaka on his way to play for Leverkusen this Summer, he sent one final public message to the Arsenal board ahead of next season.

“We’ve played a great season – but we have to keep going. We must take another forward step because it’s going to be much more difficult next season.

“We know that. The board and the coach will decide what’s going to happen but we need to be ready for anything.”

Although they failed to win the league, Arsenal had their best Premier League season since 2015/16 when they finished second to Leicester with 71 points.

“People shouldn’t forget how we have worked for 11 months. Even though we have lost the last two, you can’t forget the 11 months that we’ve worked.”

Next season Arsenal will have Champions League football and if they are to compete against Europe’s best, the board may need to invest this Summer and prepare like the departing Xhaka suggests.

Xhaka has agreed to sign for Bayer Leverkusen this Summer and will play his final game for Arsenal on Sunday when the Gunners face Wolves at the Emirates.
