Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 Tips On Day Three, Thursday 3rd August 2023

The first selection in our Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 for Thursday is PERFUSE. Sir Michael Stoute’s colt impressed with two novice wins before shaping well to finish fifth in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot in June. He also has form on testing ground so if the going is in his favour, he should be hard to beat. Another positive is the drop back down in trip, he led for most of the way at the royal meeting when favourite so going back to 1m2f can help his cause in this contest.
2:25 – Markel Richmond Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (Colts & Geldings) (2y0) 6f – ITV – Vandeek @ 11/8
With a few non-runners at the top of the market, our selection for this Class 1 contest is VANDEEK. Trained by Simon and Ed Crisford, he arrives here after a promising debut at Nottingham last month. Despite being slowly away in the Midlands on that day, the colt got the job done in fashion. This impressive two-year-old should be the one to beat, especially after winning in style following that horror start on debut. With some of the chief protagonists in Jasour and Unquestionable dropping out, Vandeek is our second pick with a big future on his hands.
3:00 – John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo) 1m3f – ITV – Desert Hero @ 9/2
The third selection for us is royal horse DESERT HERO. This William Haggas-trained colt produced a magnificent performance last time out at Royal Ascot, winning at 18/1 in the King George V Handicap, and looks like he can improve further. A positive to note is that he won on soft ground as a two-year-old, so there should be no problem with the bad weather. He struggled for racing room when winning at Ascot but still managed to win, and with a smaller field here he has every chance of getting a good run.
3:35 – Qatar Nassau Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (Fillies & Mares) (3yo+) 1m1f – ITV – Blue Rose Cen @ 8/11
And finally, the fourth selection in our Thursday Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 tips is BLUE ROSE CEN. We believe this filly has what it takes to make Goodwood history by becoming the first French horse to win the Nassau Stakes, after six impressive victories in a row. She won the French 1000 Guineas in May before scoring in the French Oaks at Chantilly a month later, and with soft ground not a problem, she is the one to beat for us. Christopher Head’s three-year-old is already a proven Group 1 winner, and can still improve.
