Frankie Dettori will ride in Hungary this weekend for the first time in his career as his ‘farewell tour’ continues. The popular Italian jockey will team up with leading owners Jim and Fitri Hay for two rides.

Dettori To Ride At Autumn International Meeting In Budapest

Frankie Dettori, who won last week’s Group One Juddmonte International Stakes at York, doesn’t have any booked rides in the UK this week, but he does in Hungary.

The popular Italian jockey has ridden 25 winners in the UK this campaign, in what is his final season in the saddle having announced his retirement last year.

Those 25 wins have come from just 107 rides in the UK and in the process has amassed a cool £4.2m in total prize money.

Next stop for Frankie on his ‘farewell tour’ though is a trip to Hungary and Kincsem Park (Budapest), a track that Dettori has NEVER ridden at.

He will be riding for owners Jim and Fitri Hay in the Kincsem Stakes (1m) and the Zakaria Aperianov Memorial-Imperial Stakes (1m).

The Hays have two in the Kincsem – Splendant and Tides Of War and also Silent Film and Sceptic in the Imperial Stakes – Frankie is likely to get the pick of the runners.

The Italian has also said to have quizzed fellow veteran jockey Rab Havlin about the track, having never ridden at Kincsem Park before.

Despite having never ridden at the track, Frankie does have a Hungary connection when he rode their star sprinter Overdose for trainer Jozef Roszival to win a Group 3 in Itay back in 2011.

Dettori told the Racing Post

“I’ve never ridden there before although I did ride Overdose for his Hungarian connections back in the day,” Dettori told the Racing Post on Tuesday. “They have been asking me for years to go over and ride there and as it’s my last year I wanted to go and pay them back.”

“Jim said to me during Goodwood that he was sending a couple of horses and asked if I wanted to ride them, and my thought was ‘Why not?’,” Dettori said. “I’m really looking forward to it as I love a new challenge and a new country – that’s what really gets me going”

Frankie Dettori’s Big Race Wins This Season

The ‘farewell tour’ season for Frankie Dettori has already been a fruitful one regardless of what happends now.

He’s won the 2000 Guineas (Chaldean), Epsom Oaks (Soul Sister), Ascot Gold Cup (Courage Mon Ami), Jacques le Marois (Inspiral), Juddmonte International (Mostahdaf).

The Melbourne Cup Expected To Be Frankie’s Final Race

Frankie will be back in the UK for the Doncaster St Leger Meeting (14th-16th Sept), plus the big Newmarket Autumn fixtures and Champions Day at Ascot on October 21st.

The Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita (3rd-4th Nov) is also on the Dettori agenda and then the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday 7th November being suggested as Frankie’s final ever ride, where he could team-up with the recent Ebor Handicap winner Absurde.
