Relegation battlers Luton Town and Everton face off at Goodison Park in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday afternoon, where both sides will be aiming to build on narrow victories in the previous round.
The pair advanced to this stage of the competition via third round replays, with the Hatters besting League One outfit Bolton 2-1 after playing out a goalless stalemate first time around, while the Toffees edged Crystal Palace 1-0 after a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park almost two weeks prior.
Those results see both sides boast an identical record over the last three games, with two draws and a victory apiece. Everton’s other draw came against high-flying Aston Villa in the Premier League, and Luton’s came against fellow relegation strugglers Burnley, whom they drew 1-1 with.
Just a point separates the pair in the English top flight table as it stands, with Sean Dyche’s side currently occupying 17th place. Their Bedfordshire counterparts remain hot on their tails in 18th though, and they boast a slight advantage on the Toffees in that sense with a game-in-hand still to play.
Their meeting earlier in the campaign ended 2-1 in favour of Rob Edwards’ side. Tom Lockyer and Carlton Morris got the all important goals in that one, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin netting what turned out to be a consolation goal for the hosts.
This time around however, we at SportsLens don’t anticipate a similar result. With both sides well rested and Everton seeking revenge for September’s defeat, we’re backing the hosts to advance to the fifth round with a comfortable triumph on Merseyside this weekend.
