Ebor Festival York Racing Results on Saturday 26th August 2023 – Absurde Dettori Double as Mullins Triumphs in Feature

Last year’s winning jockey was at it again in the feature Heritage Handicap, the 1m 6f Ebor as Frankie Dettori overcame the widest draw of all and completed a big-race double aboard Willie Mullins’ Absurde. Strong in the market with horse racing betting sites, the Irish raider came up the stands’ side rail and held off strong favourite Sweet William and topweight Live Your Dream to land the £300,000 first prize.

Beloved veteran Euchen Glen came fourth in his fourth crack at the Ebor with fellow outsider Berkshire Rocco also in the frame for York racing results in the feature contest, running a big race for the Andrew Balding stable in fifth. It was a fairytale farewell to the Knavesmire for public darling and Italian rider Dettori, who also piloted Kinross to another City Of York Stakes success in the previous race.

Course Specialist Spirit Dancer Steps up with Strensall Stakes Success

Spirit Dancer was in the form of his life coming into another run at York races and completing the hat-trick on a foray out of handicap company in the opening 1m 1f Group 3 Strensall Stakes. Richard Fahey’s local runner profited from red-hot favourite Nostrum not firing again with Ryan Moore easing the Juddmonte colt. Karl Burke-trained pair El Drama and Flight Plan filled the places.

York Racing Results – Middle Earth Books Place in Next Year’s Ebor with Melrose Win

The 1m 6f Melrose Stakes Heritage Handicap for three-year-olds is a “win and you’re in” race for next year’s Ebor. Middle Earth booked his spot in it under retained jockey Oisin Murphy for owners Qatar Racing and father-son training duo John & Thady Gosden. This victory for the Roaring Lion colt earned him quotes for the final British Classic at Doncaster races next month, the St Leger.

Well found in the market, York racing results show Middle Earth pulling almost two lengths clear of fellow handicap debutant Denmark. Fox Journey finished third for King Power Racing in front of William Haggas pair Lordship and Alhambra Palace, who hung badly towards the far side rail.

Kinross Retains City Of York Stakes Crown under Frankie

Perhaps the most popular of York racing results today came when Frankie Dettori piloted Kinross to a successful defence of his 7f Group 2 City Of York Stakes crown for trainer Ralph Beckett and owner Marc Chan. A true distance specialist, the six-year-old Kingman gelding came down the centre of the Knavesmire and prevailed by three-quarters of a length.

Criterion Stakes scorer Audience took a step back in the right direction and got closest to Kinross in second for the Gosden stable. Sandrine, who once bested the favourite at Goodwood races during the Glorious meeting two years ago, was a head back in third with Lennox Stakes runner-up Isaac Shelby settling for fourth with the well-backed mare Sacred failing to fire to the William Haggas yard.

Albasheer & Summerghand in Constantine Handicap Dead Heat

A photo finish and the judge couldn’t separate Summerghand and Albasheer in the 6f Constantine Handicap, so the sprint Heritage Handicap was called a dead-heat. The former, trained locally by David O’Meara, was joined on the line by the latter with the front two home together in front of Ehraz. York racing results show 25/1 outsider and fellow Richard Hannon runner The Big Board and James Fanshawe’s Fresh taking minor honours.

Inquisitively Gets Roses Stakes Win for Buick & New Trainer

Despite changing owners on multiple occasions in his short career, Inquisitively won on debut for new trainer Kevin Philippart de Foy in the Listed 5f Julia Graves Roses Stakes for two-year-olds. He shot a couple of lengths clear under William Buick, besting betting sites favourite Purosangue. York racing results had Sketch just holding third from Irish raider Alabama.

Astro King Reigns in Sky Bet Finale

The 28th and final race of the Ebor Festival, the 1m 2f Sky Bet Finale Heritage Handicap, went to unlucky John Smith’s Cup runner-up Astro King. A former inmate of the Stoute stable, now trained by Daniel & Claire, this was compensation for an agonising nose defeat last month with William Buick completing a double in the saddle from stall 1. Oviedo was second for the local Ed Bethell stable with favourite Haunted Dream only third and home in front of Killybegs Warrior.
