Doncaster Horse Racing Tips & Trends | 1-2-3 Best Bets For ITV Racing, Thursday 8th Sept 22
Andy Newton gives you his quickfire 1-2-3 Doncaster horse racing best bets for the ITV races at Town Moor this Thursday.
-
1:25 – British Stallion Studs EBF ‘Carrie Red’ Fillies’ Nursery Handicap Cl2 (2yo) 6½f ITV3
1. COCO JAMBOO (e/w) 2. Misty Blues 3. Bonny Angel
COCO JAMBOO (e/w) @ 13/2 with BetUK is chanced here back on the turf after running below-par on the AW at Kempton last time out. This Marco Botti runner was still sent off favourite that day so connections clearly like her and prior to that had run a solid third at Newbury over 6f. Andrea Atzeni also catches the eye in the saddle. The consistent Misty Blues and Bonny Angel, who stayed on well to beat Lily In The Jungle last time at Leicester, can do best of the rest.
- Key Trends
- 19/19 – Had raced in the last 7 weeks
- 17/19 – Carried 9-3 or less
- 16/19 – Rated 74 or higher

- 12/19 – Placed favourites
- 10/19 – Came from a double-figure stall

2:00 – Weatherbys Scientific ÂŁ300,000 2-Y-O Stakes (GBB Race) Cl2 (2yo) 6½f ITV3
1. HOLGUIN (e/w) 2. Cold Case 3. Magical Sunset
HOLGIUN (e/w) @ 9/1 with BetUK gets the nod here with the Andrew Balding yard having won two of the last three runnings of this race. This 2 year-old was last seen running down the field in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, but before that ran the useful Persian Force to 2 1/2 lengths at Newbury. Connections have taken their time since (3 months off) so is expected to be a lot stronger this time. Cold Case has to be considered too after a top bronze in the Gimcrack Stakes at York last time, while the Hannon yard often do well in these lucrative juvenile races so their Magical Sunset, who won on debut at Windsor, won’t be far away either.
- Key Trends
- 17/18 – Raced within the last 5 weeks
- 14/18 – Finished 5th or better last time out
- 13/18 – Yet to win over 6 ½ or 7f
- 13/18 – Won between 1-2 times
- 12/18 – Winning distance – 1 length or less
- 11/18 – Won from a double-figure stall
- 9/18 – Foaled in Jan or Feb
- 9/18 – Raced at York last time out
- 9/18 – Placed favourites
- 6/18 – Won last time out
- 3/18 – Winning favourites
- 3/18 – Trained by Richard Fahey (including 2 or the last 8 runnings)
- 2/18 – Had raced at Doncaster before
- 2/18 – Won by a filly
- 2/18 – Trained by Andrew Balding (2 of the last 3)
- 2/18 – Placed horses from stall 1
- 12 of the last 15 winners carried 8-12 or less in weight
-
2:35 – Cazoo May Hill Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (2yo) 1m ITV3
1. DANCE IN THE GRASS 2. Novakai 3. Frankness
DANCE IN THE GRASS @ 10/11 with BetUK is 2-from-2 after good wins at Sandown and can remain unbeaten here. The form of that last win has also been franked with the second – Fairy Cross – winning the G3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood at the end of last month. The Mark Johnston runner has had a nice 49 day break to recover since that last race too and William Buick a bonus in the saddle. Frankness has won her last two well and can give the favourite something to think about, while Novakai is a course winner and wasn’t beaten far in the Sweet Solera Stakes (5th) last time at Newmarket.
- Key Trends
- 19/20 – Had 1 or 2 previous career wins
- 18/20 – Had won over 7f+ before
- 18/20 – Won by a Feb, Mar or April foal
- 16/20 – Had 2 or more previous career runs
- 13/20 – Won last time out
- 10/20 – Ran at Newmarket last time out
- 9/20 – Drawn in stalls 1 or 2
- 7/20 – Winning favourites
- 12 of the last 16 winners returned 4/1 or shorter in the betting

3:10 – Coral Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m6½f ITV3
1. ESHAADA 2. River Of Stars 3. Yesyes
ESHAADA @ 6/4 with BetUK is taken to get back to winning ways here in what doesn’t look the best Park Hill Stakes. She’s got a bit to prove after two defeats this season – the last in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock (3rd) at the hands of last year’s winner of this race (Free Wind). The longer trip is a slight unknown for the Varian filly, but her class is taken to see her through – she’s rated 113 and 7lbs higher than anything else in the field. With the Ralph Beckett yard winning two of the last six, their pair Yesyes, who was a fine fourth in the Lille Langtry last time, and the unexposed River Of Stars can take advantage if Eshaada has an off day.
- Key Trends
- 17/19 – Aged 3 or 4 years-old
- 16/19 – Returned 8/1 or shorter in the betting
- 15/19 – Ran within the last 6 weeks

- 5/19 – Raced at Goodwood last time out
- 4/19 – Ridden by Frankie Dettori
- 3/19 – Trained by John Gosden
- 2/19 – Trained by Ralph Beckett (2 of the last 6)
-
3:45 – Cazoo Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-100) 7f ITV3
1. ZAINALARAB 2. Billyb 3. Admiral D
ZAINALARAB @ 7/4 with BetUK can give the Roger Varian yard another winner in the day. This 3 year-old brings some decent form to the table after three wins at Salisbury, Chester and Sandown last time. He’s up another 5lbs here but did it well enough last time to think he’s up to taking he extra burden in his stride. Of the others, jockey Paul Hanagan has done well in this race and rides Billyb and with two wins since 2016 the Richard Fahey camp are also respected – they run Admiral D.
- Key Trends
- 10/11 – Ran in the last 8 weeks
- 10/11 – Won over 6f or 7f
- 10/11 – Didn’t win last time out
