Didier Drogba has criticised his former club and launched a brutal rant at Chelsea accusing the owners of lacking class, and claims he no longer recognises his club.

These comments came before the Blues were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid.

The legendary striker was on punditry duty for Canal+ and made his feelings known towards the Chelsea board.

“I knew this club with a certain class during the Abramovich era, but today I find it lacking,

“It’s very hard for me to see how they got rid of certain people. They should go back to the principles and values they had. I no longer recognise my club.”

Drogba knows exactly what success feels like, especially at Chelsea – he scored the winning penalty in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 2012.

That was one of his 12 major honours won at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2012 under previous owner Roman Abramovic. The Ivorian scored 164 goals in his time at the club.

Abramovic was forced to sell the club last year after he was sanctioned by the UK government over alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

American investor Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital completed a £4.25 billion takeover almost a year ago now.

After spending over £550 million on players across the last two transfer windows, there’s no secret as to why Drogba has criticised his former club. The money spent has not been translated to success on the pitch whatsoever.
