Reigning treble-winners Manchester City kickstart their Champions League title defence in the knockout stage with a trip to the Danish capital to take on Copenhagen in the first leg of their Round of 16 matchup on Tuesday night.
After a disappointing defeat to Aston Villa at the start of December, Pep Guardiola‘s side have gone 13 straight matches without defeat. Their last 10 have ended in victories, with Club World Cup wins over Urawa Reds and Fluminense, as well domestic victories over Newcastle and Tottenham included across that run.
City finished the group stage with a perfect record by winning all six matches, while Copenhagen upset the odds to finish second in their group behind Bayern Munich – sending Manchester United and Galatasaray crashing out of the competition in the process.
Jacob Neestrup’s side have been out of competitive action since their MD6 victory over Galatasaray in December due to the winter break. During that time, they’ve played friendlies against Rangers and Sparta Prague, and have also taken part in the Atlantic Cup – a friendly tournament mainly for Scandinavia-based clubs.
The pair met in the group stages of the competition last season, where City put in a memorable display at Parken with a 5-0 triumph. Erling Haaland netted a brace in that one, along with an own-goal and goals from Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez, and we expect a result of a similar nature this time around.
