Henderson Identifies Ahorsewithnoname As His Main Cesarewitch Hope
Just the one likely 2022 Cesarewitch Handicap entry for Nicky Henderson this year, but in AHORSEWITHNONAME @ 9/2 with 888Sport he looks to have a leading chance.
Ahorsewithnoname was last seen winning easily by 5 lengths at York in May, but has been put away over the summer since. It’s likely that connections have been tempted to run her at the big summer flat festivals, but you suspect they’ve kept her fresh with this race in mind and to also protect her handicap mark of 96.
Prior to that York win in May, she was a winner at Newbury too and before that an excellent second in the Mares’ Novices Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
With six runs over the sticks, there’s every chance Henderson will a campaign over the jumps in the coming months already mapped out, but first on the agenda is to try and win his handler his fourth Cesarewitch at Newmarket this Saturday.
Ryan Moore Booked To Ride Ahorsewithnoname Again
Henderson, and the connections of Ahorsewithnoname, have also wasted no time in securing one of the best jockeys around in Ryan Moore. The former champion jockey knows the horse well, having ridden him in his last two wins and is 2-from-2 on the 7 year-old. Moore will be looking for his second Cesarewitch Handicap win after winning the prize back in 2002 on the Martin Pipe-trained Miss Fara.
Nicky Henderson Has History In The Cesarewitch
As mentioned, the Cesarewitch is a contest the Nicky Henderson yard love to have runners in, but also have winners in. The Seven Barrows main man has won the top prize in this competitive Newmarket handicap three times over the years.
Henderson’s first success in the race came in 2003 when Pat Eddery guided home his 8 year-old Landing Light, while they were the bookies friend in 2008 when his 50/1 shot Caracciola landed the spoils for jockey Eddie Ahern.
He had to wait 13 years for his next Cesarewitch winner, which came 12 months ago with the popular grey Buzz, with Oisin Murphy doing the steering – you can relive that win below.
Jumps Trainers Have A Decent Cesarewitch Strike-rate
Being run over 2m2f on the flat then it’s no surprise that we tend to get a lot of jumps trainers targeting the race. They’ve simply got a lot more horses that are bred to stay this longer trip and because many have been running more over jumps, they return to the flat on fair handicap marks.
This has been backed-up in recent years with the Willie Mullins Irish yard winning three of the last four runnings, while the powerful Nicky Henderson camp have landed three wins over the years, including 12 months ago with Buzz (watch again below).
