Newcastle United face a decision over Callum Wilson this summer, with his contract due to expire in 2025.

Wilson, 32, was linked with a move away in the January window, and Chelsea had been tempted to move for him.

He was touted as an £18million option in the winter, and he is likely to appear as a potential good-value deal this summer for teams looking for a fresh option in attack, should he fail to warrant another new contract with Newcastle.

Sources have confirmed that Chelsea do admire him and would not rule out the idea of a fresh move for Wilson, if they decide to consider cheaper alternatives in attack to Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney. The player was said to be open to such a move in January.

Manchester United – who are eager to add further depth to their attacking options – were also linked with Wilson in January and will be kept in the loop over potential availability when the window re-opens.

Elsewhere West Ham United and Bournemouth could emerge as potential landing spots for the striker, who is currently sidelined through injury.

It has been a stop-start season for Wilson; he is currently sidelined with a chest injury after suffering a problem in a win over Nottingham Forest that required surgery.

It was a blow to Wilson, who is very likely to miss the chance to go to Euro 2024 with England.

He has also suffered time out this season with hamstring and calf issues but has still managed to score eight times from 22 appearances.

Newcastle are having to be open-minded about player exits this summer and are likely to be more open to losing Wilson than fellow forward Alexander Isak.

The future of Bruno Guimaraes is also going to come into focus as we revealed at the start of March.  There were fears rising that his head would be turned by interest from big clubs on the continent if Newcastle were not showing signs they could match his ambition.

Newcastle were knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend and Eddie Howe’s future as manager is in some doubt as he seeks to end the season with a climb up the Premier League table.

Newcastle are currently 10th with 10 matches left to play and face West Ham when they return after the international break.
