Aston Villa vs Newcastle Preview & Prediction (20:15 KO)

Newcastle head down to Villa Park for their midweek Premier League fixture on Tuesday, as they take on Unai Emery’s high-flying Aston Villa.

The Villans currently occupy fourth place in the English top flight table, level on points with second and third placed Manchester City and Arsenal, and are just five points shy of league leaders Liverpool.

Villa have recorded just one defeat in their last 15 matches across all competitions, most recently drawing back-to-back matches 0-0 against Everton and Chelsea in the cup and the league. Across this impressive run, they’ve defeated the likes of City and Arsenal and have turned their home ground into a fortress for success.

While they flourish near the top of the pile, the Magpies find themselves down in a lowly-10th place. Four defeats on the spin in the league for Eddie Howe’s side has seen the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Brighton overtake them in the table – leaving plenty of work to do to nail down a European qualification position.

The pair last met on the opening weekend of the season, where a brace from Alexander Isak, supported by goals from Callum Wilson, Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes inspired the Tyneside club to a 5-1 victory at home. A result of a similar nature now seems incredibly unlikely based on recent form though.

We at SportsLens certainly can’t see the Villans losing this one, as their unbeaten home record in the league now spans across almost an entire year. Newcastle could perhaps nick a draw, however we’re backing Emery’s men to do the business and keep the pressure on the top three.

Prediction: Aston Villa 2-1 Newcastle

Aston Villa vs Newcastle Betting Tips

  • Aston Villa To Win & Both Teams To Score @ 11/5
  • Ollie Watkins To Score Anytime @ 6/5
  • Combined Bet Builder Odds @ 15/4

Aston Villa vs Newcastle Betting Tip 1: Aston Villa To Win & BTTS @ 11/5

Our first tip for your Tuesday night Aston Villa vs Newcastle bet builder is to back the Villans to come out on top and for both teams to score during the match, priced by leading UK betting sites at 11/5.

While Villa have been on a great run of form over the last few months, it has somewhat dipped since mid-December. Draws to Sheffield United and Everton, as well as a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United after initially leading 2-0 has seen them drop points, with their defensive line looking the most vulnerable it’s been all year.

In fact, they’ve conceded in four of their last five league matches, including an aforementioned three goals against the Red Devils and a disappointing two against 10-man relegation battlers Burnley.

Despite this, we still expect Emery’s side to grind out the result, especially given Newcastle’s torrid league form as of late, however we don’t expect them to do so without conceding a goal.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle Betting Tip 2: Ollie Watkins To Score Anytime @ 6/5

Ollie Watkins has been a different animal in claret and blue this season, already boasting 14 goals and 10 assists in 30 appearances. He has already surpassed last season’s assist count, and is just two goals shy of matching his goalscoring tally.

Of course, Watkins failed to score on his last league appearance in the goalless stalemate against Everton, but netted a brace against Burnley in the game prior. A goal and an assist against Bournemouth at the start of December, as well as a goal against former club Brentford tallies up his total for the month in terms of goal contributions.

He is yet to open his account for 2024 though, having made three appearances in all competitions. We at SportsLens are backing the England international to change this against the Magpies on Tuesday by scoring at anytime, priced at 6/5.

Watkins has pedigree in this fixture too, scoring twice and providing an assist in a 3-0 victory for the Villans when the pair last met at Villa Park towards the back end of last season.
