Aston Villa parted company with Steven Gerrard after a poor start to the season despite considerable backing in the transfer market.

Gerrard joined Aston Villa in November last year. But two wins in their opening 12 league games has cost Gerrard his job at Villa Park.

Aston Villa have invested heavily in their team over recent years, something they continued with Gerrard.

The likes of Phillipe Coutinho and Diego Carlos joined Aston Villa in the summer for big money. Despite big signings, Villa have struggled and Gerrard paid the price.

Great Start

They returned to action against Brentford today and got off the perfect start.

Two minutes into the first half, Leon Bailey opened the scoring for Aston Villa.

Danny Ings returned to the team today and grabbed his first in the 7th minute. Seven minutes later, Ings doubled his tally and made it 3-0 to Villa in just 15 minutes.

The second half didn’t see as many goals, but Villa managed to grab another goal.

Ollie Watkins got in on the act to make it 4-0 to Villa.

It’s some turn around by Villa who had scored just four goals at home all season before today’s game.

Whoever takes over at Villa Park will have a squad with remarkable talent, but will need to work a way to get the best out of them.
