Brighton’s Moises Caicedo remains Arsenal’s sole focus, and are considering making a third bid for the 21-year-old before the January window shuts on Tuesday night.

An initial £60m bid from the Premier League leaders was rejected last week before a follow up proposal, believed to be worth £65m plus £5m in add-ons, was dismissed by Brighton on Sunday evening.

The Seagulls’ stance remains firm over Caicedo, who they are intent on keeping this winter regardless of any bids they may receive.

Despite continuing to insist he is not for sale, Caicedo publicly declared his desire for a move away from the south coast following Arsenal‘s opening bid, and it is believed the promising midfielder wants to make the switch to North London this month.

The Gunner’s record transfer fee came back in 2019 when they paid £72m for Nicolas Pepe, and if they are to be successful in their pursuit of Caicedo, they will almost certainly have to exceed that sum with less than 48 hours of the window left.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi said the club are ‘ready to go forward’ without him but also expressed his desire to keep one of their standout performers until at least the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta has made no secret of the club’s hankering for reinforcements in midfield after Mohamad Elneny was recently ruled out of action with a long-term injury, while Sambi Lokonga’s substitute performance against Manchester City last week further compounded doubts over his ability to deputise should Thomas Partey or Granit Xhaka pick up an injury.

A third bid for Caicedo could arrive very soon and would likely exceed £80m according to several reports, but relationships between the two clubs are positive following previous deals for Ben White and Leandro Trossard, so Brighton’s resolve could be tested with a fee of that magnitude.
