Grand National Festival Day One Tips: Thursday 13th April 2023
Day 1 of the 2023 Grand National Festival gets going at 1.45pm with the Manifesto Novices’ Chase and the big ‘Aintree Roar’. The opening day’s action is headlined by the Aintree Bowl Chase at 2.55pm and the Aintree Hurdle at 3:30pm where all eyes will be on Constitution Hill. The star hurdle looks to give trainer Nicky Henderson a seventh successive triumph over hurdles. He is the overriding 1/9 favourite to win the Aintree Hurdle with the best Grand National odds.
Grand National Festival 1-2-3 Best Bets on Day 1
13.45: Manifesto Novices’ Chase
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: STAGE STAR will be the focus here after an emphatic win at the Cheltenham Festival last month when he won the Turners Novices’ Chase for trainer Paul Nicholls with jockey Harry Cobden in the saddle. Cobden again takes the ride today on Stage Star, looking to make it four straight wins over fences. The JP O’Brien trained Banbridge looks to have a real chance here too and is currently the 11/8 favourite, but we can see Stage Star pipping him for the win here. Saint Roi is another chaser coming here in good form after a third place finish at Cheltenham in the Arkle.
- STAGE STAR
- BANBRIDGE
- SAINT ROI
14.20: Juvenile Hurdle ITV
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: This year’s Juvenile Hurdle at Aintree looks like it could be provide another Willie Mullins winner in the shape of ZENTA. He is the overriding 5/r favourite here looking to make it three wins from four starts. the 7/1 shot Bo Zenith with jockey Jamie Moore on board comes here in good form with two wins on the spin, and here at SportsLens we can see him just missing out to the favourite. Third place could be a battle between various horses but we are favouring the Fergal O’Brien trained Greyval to claim and each-way place.
- ZENTA
- BO ZENITH
- GREYVAL
14.55: Aintree Bowl Chase ITV
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: Former Grand National Festival winner Shishkin is the favourite for the Aintree Bowl this year, but we can see him missing out to AHOY SENOR in this one. Again, the battle for the each-way places could be an interesting one and we are favouriting the Gordon Elliott trained Conflated to finish in third ahead of the likes of A Plus Tard and Ga Law.
- AHOY SENOR
- SHISKIN
- CONFLATED
15.30: Aintree Hurdle ITV
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: It will be a huge shock if one of the Grand National Festival bankers – CONSTITUTION HILL – is beaten here. The 6-year-old gelding won by nine lengths at Cheltenham last month in the Champion Hurdle, and he looks near on impossible to stop right now. We can see a few horses battling it out for the each-way places but are slightly favouring Sharjah and Epatante to come in second and third respectively ahead of the likes of Zanahiyr and I Like To Move It.
- CONSTITUTION HILL
- SHARJAH
- EPATANTE

16.05: Foxhunters’ Open Hunters’ Chase ITV
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: The Foxhunters’ Open Hunters’ Chase looks like a wide open race on Day 1 of the Grand National Festival. We are favouring LATENIGHTPASS to triumph in this one as the 5/1 third favourite. Winged Leader is the current betting favourite with the best horse racing betting sites, and we can see the 9-year-old just missing out and coming second. Magic Saint could be a good each-way bet at 12/1 and we like his chances of finishing in the top three places.
- LATENIGHTPASS
- WINGED LEADER
- MAGIC SAINT
16.40: Red Rum Handicap Chase ITV
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: Wide open race with the Lucinda Russell-trained Douglas Talking being a warm order for this in the betting. However, we are taking on the favourite with a 12/1 outsider in the shape of HASANKEY. The Irish 7-year-old boasts some strong form coming into Aintree and we can see him potentially just pipping Douglas Talking to the winning post. Last year’s runner-up in this race Dancing On My Own doesn’t come into Aintree in any sort of form, but we like his chances of finishing third in the Red Rum Handicap Chase.
- HASANKEY
- DOUGLAS TALKING
- DANCING ON MY OWN
17.15: Mares’ Standard Open NH Flat Race RTV
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS:Â Another wide open race to finish Day 1 of the Grand National Festival. We like the chances of the Henry De Bromhead-trained JULY FLOWER with jockey Rachael Blackmore taking the ride. She is two-for-two in her racing career so far, and we can see that becoming a hat-trick of wins here at Aintree today. Seeyouinmydreams is the current favourite, but we are taking the Paul Nicholls-trained mare on with July Flower. 10/1 shot Baby Sage looks like a decent each-way bet in the Mares’ Standard Open NH Flat Race here too.
- JULY FLOWER
- SEEYOUINMYDREAMS
- BABY SAGE
