Saturday 4th February 2023

  • 1:55 – Donohue Marquees Spring Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo) 2m RTV: LOSSIEMOUTH @ 2/5 with BetUK

Favourite backers will be hoping to hit the ground running in the second race on the Saturday as the exciting Willie Mullins-trained LOSSIEMOUTH will be a warm order to take the Spring Juvenile Hurdle at 1:55.

Owned by Rich Ricci, this is a race the popular owner also took 12 months ago with Vauban, who went onto follow-up in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, while overall the Mullins camp have won 4 of the last 8 runnings.

Lossiemouth will be hoping to land the Spring Juvenile / Triumph Hurdle double too – he’s on offer before this Leopardstown race @ 6/5 for the Triumph Hurdle on Friday 17th March with BetUK.

  • 3:05 – Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup (Grade 1) (5yo+) 3m RTV: GALOPIN DES CHAMPS @ 4/11 with BetUK

The second Dublin Racing Festival Willie Mullins banker on day one is the current Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite GALOPIN DES CHAMPS.

This 7 year-old has won four of his 5 starts over fences, with his only blot coming when clear and falling at the last in the Turners Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham last season.

He’s since put that tumble behind him with wins at Fairyhouse and most recently at Punchestown and barring accidents is fully expected to take Saturday’s Irish Gold Cup (3:05) before heading to Prestbury Park for the ‘big one’ on Friday 17th March, where he’s on offer @ 11/8 with BetUK.

Sunday 5th February 2023

  • 2:10 – Ladbrokes Dublin Chase (Grade 1) (5yo+) 2m1f RTV: BLUE LORD @ 2/5 with BetUK

Into Sunday and if the day one bankers have landed then punters will be waking up looking forward to the next one – BLUE LORD – who is all the rage in the Dublin Chase at 2:10.

This Mullins 8 year-old 2m chaser is one of the main fancies for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival on 15th March, where he’s @ 3/1 with BetUK before this weekend’s outing.

We saw Blue Lord winning the Irish Arkle at this meeting last season and from his 7 runs to date over fences, his only defeat has come in the Arkle at the Festival when third to Edwardstone.

He’s returned this season better than ever with facile wins at Clonmel over 2m 4 1/2f and Leopardstown last time at Christmas when taking the Rewards Club Grade 1 Chase by an easy 11 lengths and looks to have a superb chance of heading to the Festival with another success under his belt.

  • 3:40 – Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle (Grade 1) (5yo+) 2m RTV: FACILE VEGA @ 2/5 with BetUK

FACILE VEGA is the final of the Willie Mullins ‘big gun’ bankers at the 2023 Dublin Racing Festival and if we get this far, with the other three winning, then the bookmakers are likely to be running for cover!

This unbeaten 6 year-old took the Future Stars Bumper at this meeting 12 months ago and so far he’s been living up to the title of that race.

He’s made the switch to hurdles with two lovely wins at Fairyhouse and last time here at Leopardstown when winning the Future Champions Novice Hurdle – meaning he’s now won three of his six career wins at the Dublin course.

If winning well, not only will the Dublin roar be heard in the UK, but his Cheltenham odds @ 4/5 with BetUK for the meetings curtain raiser race – the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle – will shorten again.
