Templegate Tips At Newbury For ITV Racing: Saturday 2nd December
Listed are the Templegate tips at Newbury on Saturday 2nd December for the LIVE ITV Races.
We’ve FOUR races being shown LIVE on ITV on Saturday at Newbury that include the Coral Gold Cup – the old Hennessy. It’s a race trainer Dan Skelton won last year with Le Milos and will be trying to follow up, this time with Midnight River.
The Coral Gold Cup is also a contest top trainer Paul Nicholls actually rode the winner in twice and he’s also saddled three successes as a handler – including Denman twice. He runs Complete Unknown this year in search of win number four – of six if you count his two as a jockey.
Friday’s Templegate NAP won (Kandoo Kid), so don’t miss this Saturday’s main pick.

- 1:40: Coral Racing Club Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+ 0-150) 2m4½f ITV: JET POWERED at 11/4 with BetMGM
Trainer Nicky Henderson has won this race twice since 2018, including with this talented Champ. This 6 year-old was turned over at long odds on last time here, but that run was clearly not his true showing and prior to that had bolted up by 11 lengths. Connections have taken their time with him since and is expected to get back on track here, in what is also his first run in a handicap.
- 2:15: Bet In Race With Coral Intermediate Handicap Hurdle (Reg’ As The Gerry Feilden) (Premier H’cap)(GBB) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m½f ITV: UNDER CONTROL (nb) 11/8 with BetMGM
This has been another good race for the Nicky Henderson yard over the years – winning it three times since 2019, including with their Champion Hurdler Epatante. She’s won three of her last four too and the form of her last Sandown win in in April is rock solid with the horse she beat – Iberico Lord – winning last month’s Greatwood Hurdle.
- 2:50: Coral Gold Cup Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 3m2f ITV: MONBEG GENIUS (NAP) 15/2 with BetMGM
The Jonjo O’Neill-trained 7 year-old, Monbeg Genius, was a fine third in the Ultima Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last March. The form of that race is strong with the winner a certain Corach Rambler, who, of course, went onto win the Grand National. He returned this season with a poor run back at Ascot, when some jumping errors crept in and was pulled up. However, this race would have been a target for a while and with only 10-6 the Templegate tips feel he looks well-treated in a race the yard won just three years ago (Cloth Cap).
- 3:25: Coral Get Closer To The Action Handicap Chase (For The Jim Joel Memorial Trophy) (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+ 0-150) 2m½f ITV: REAL STONE 7/2 with BetMGM
Real Stone bolted up by 20 lengths last time out at Haydock and looks worth sticking with despite being 8lbs higher here. The fact connections are turning him out again so quickly is a good sign he’s come out of the race well and in this better race gets in with only 10-9 to carry. Jockey Harry Skelton rides.
