ASCOT 1.30
PASSING WELL has yet to jump a fence in public but siding with Jamie Snowden’s young/inexperienced chasers is a profitable angle in handicap company. Backing all those aged six or younger, who were having their first or second run over fences, would have found 25 winners from 97 bets for a profit of £35.88 to a £1 level stake at SP. No less than 31 of the beaten horses also ran second or third and a buy of PASSING WELL in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market (or each-way bet at 5-1) could pay dividends.

ASCOT 3.15
Nine of the last ten winners of this handicap hurdle came from the top five in the weights and backing all 51 qualifiers would have returned a profit of £11.13 to a £1 level stake at SP. Five of the ten winners were from the top two in the weights (+£16.38) yet the market is dominated by those near the foot of the weights. Last year, the first three home were numbers 3, 1 and 5 on the racecard. Current favourite OUR CHAMP (number 7) impressed at Cheltenham eight days ago, but the softer conditions could find him out, while RARE MDDLETON (number 11) has taken a walk in the betting this morning, suggesting that a sell of DOUBLE NUMBER OF WINNER with Spreadex could pay dividends.
Recommendation: Sell DOUBLE NUMBER OF WINNER in Ascot 3.15
WETHERBY JOCKEYS
We didn’t get the chance to side with HARRY SKELTON at Wetherby on Friday but we get the opportunity today, as the Yorkshire venue has survived a morning inspection. Skelton is a jockey to have on your side at Wetherby when conditions are testing, often tracking very wide in search of the better ground. Supporting all his mounts here would have found 51 winners from 153 bets (33.33% strike-rate) for a profit of £8.09 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who were in the top four in the betting were 61 from 127 (40.2%) for a profit of £34.09. CHERIE DM (12.40), MOUNT TEMPEST (1.15), KATEIRA (1.50) all have solid claims in their respective races, while outsider MIDNIGHT RIVER can pick up points in the four-runner Charlie Hall Chase (3.00) in the expectation that Ahoy Senor will need his comeback run. Buy HARRY SKELTON in the Spreadex JOCKEYS MARKET. Fixed odds punters might want to combine his mounts in a multiple bet.
