The latest environmental activism group ‘Just Stop Oil’ has been making headlines by targeting sporting events for their protests. So far this year, there have been protests at The World Snooker Championship, the Rugby Premiership Final, the one off test match between Ireland and England, the second Ashes test between England and Australia, and even at Wimbledon. ‘Just Stop Oil’ must have some great inside contacts to get tickets to all of these major sporting events, so we don’t see the protests stopping any time soon. But which events could they be targeting next? Join us as we take a look.
In light of ‘Just Stop Oil’s’ continued activism at major sporting events, we’ve asked our traders to assess the likelihood of future protests. While their access to tickets remains a mystery, the anticipation of their next targets grows. But first, let’s delve into the highlights of our traders’ thoughts on ‘Just Stop Oil.’
Odds on ‘Just Stop Oil’ Protests Highlights
- ‘Just Stop Oil’ odds-on to disrupt The Open.
- Protestors brave enough to enter the ring with AJ and Whyte?
- Chance cricket targeted for the third time.
- Outside chance ‘Just Stop Oil’ fly to France for the Rugby World Cup.
Will ‘Just Stop Oil’ Protest at The Open?
Our traders make The Open Championship the most likely sporting event to attract ‘Just Stop Oil’ protesters, pricing a protest up at just 4/7.
Given the recent protests, security is likely to be tighter at these events, making it more difficult for the protestors to gain entry. However, given the nature of golf crowds, our traders still believe this is their best chance for another demonstration at a major sporting event.
These protests are often make for tiresome viewing, however some will still find it preferable to the nauseating cries of ‘BABA BOOEY’ or ‘Get in the hole’ as a golfer tees off from 650 yards.
Could Protesters Hit the Winter Gardens for the World Matchplay Darts or The Ashes (Again)?
Next on the list, we have the World Matchplay Darts, priced up at 2/1. Protestors attempting a demonstration here may well need to be more weary of their fellow Winter Gardens patrons finishing their 8th pint than the security!
The second Test of the 2023 Ashes series between England and Australia at Lord’s was briefly interrupted by ;Just Stop Oil’ protestors who ran onto the outfield with bags of orange powder, but they were stopped before reaching the wicket, with one protestor being made short work of by England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow, carried off like one might carry a bag of sugar.
Cricket won’t want to be targeted for a third time so there will doubtless be increased security in place and our traders make it 5/1 for a repeat spectacle.
JSO Brave Enough to Step Into the Boxing Ring?
With the above in mind, protestors might think twice before attempting anything as a fighting event. Our traders make it 3/1 for a demonstration at AJ V Whyte and 4/1 at UFC London.
In our recent exclusive interview with Carl Froch, when asked about ‘Just Stop Oil’ protestors demonstrating at one of his fights he said: “I’d hit em with the biggest, dirtiest, uppercut straight on the chin and send em into f***ing orbit. Because if they’re getting into my boxing ring, my workplace, I’m sorry but it’s my rules.”
It’s one thing being carried off the pitch by a wicketkeeper, but another entirely being hit by a professional fighter so if any protestors had set their sights on a fighting event, they may think twice after reading Froch’s comments.
