Newmarket Each-Way Tips For Friday 14th June 2023

A race the Mark Johnston yard have a terrific record in – winning 6 of the last 10 – so despite the mantle being handed over to son Charlie their runners are still worth having onside here. They run two – Killybegs Warrior and Knockbrex – the horse that will be remembered as Frankie Dettori’s last ever Royal Ascot ride.

Killybegs needs to bounce back from some average runs at Haydock and Ascot, but let’s not forget he was only beaten 5 1/4 lengths in the Dante Stakes at York in May and is also a proven course winner here at Newmarket. A return to that Dante form makes him interesting back into a handicap.

Knockbrex failed to give Frankie the fairytale Royal Ascot ending – however, before that poor showing had been running well – including running St Leger fancy Gregory close at Haydock in April. If you can forgive that last effort, then he’s certainly not without a squeak.

A chance is taken on two more Charlie Johnston runners in this race – purely because the yard love to target this event. They’ve landed the spoils three times in the last four years and try again this year with Themaxwecan.

Themaxwecan is also looking well-treated off a mark of 91 and gets in here with just 8-13 in weight to carry.
