According to the Sun, Manchester City are plotting a summer move for Brentford defender Aaron Hickey.

It comes amid Pep Guardiola wanting to add ‘modern’ wide defenders to his squad, with Hickey reportedly fitting the bill perfectly.

The Scotsman joined Brentford in the summer for Italian side Bologna and has impressed in the side ever since.

Featuring 20 times in the Premier League so far this campaign, Hickey has been utilised on both the left and the right, despite naturally being a left-back.

Brentford are said to be aware of City’s interest, and have slapped a £30million pricetag on the 20-year-old.

As previously reported, Kyle Walker looks to be on his way out of the Etihad, hence Guardiola’s need to add wide defenders to his squad in the upcoming transfer window.

Current Premier League leaders Arsenal had previously expressed their interest in Hickey, but he ultimately joined Brentford instead.

Not only are City interested in Hickey, but also in Fulham’s American full-back Antonee Robinson.

Although they hold an interest in Robinson, Hickey looks to be the preferred target as he is five years younger than the Fulham man.

Hickey started his career at Hearts up in Scotland, before switching to Celtic and then back to Hearts.

Following a successful time in the Scottish Premiership, Hickey made the switch to the Italian top flight where he enjoyed two full seasons, before returning to the UK with Brentford.
