Aintree Horse Racing Tips for Day 3 Of The Grand National Festival: Saturday 15th April 2023

Day 3 of the 2023 Grand National Festival gets going again at 1.45pm with the Maghull Novices’ Chase, where Jonbon will be all the rage to get favourite backers off to the perfect start. The Liverpool Hurdle (3:35) and Mersey Novices’ Hurdle are two other highlights on the day, but it’s all about one race on the Saturday at Aintree – the Grand National (5:15pm)

40 runners will head to post and, as always, a big slice of ‘lady luck’ is needed for the winning horse and rider. Noble Yeats will be trying to win the race for a second time, but has more weight this time, while the Rachael Blackmore-ridden Ain’t That A Shame has been well-backed in recent days.

You can also see the Aintree trends for the main day three races on Saturday.

Aintree Horse Racing Tips For The Grand National Festival: 1-2-3 Best Bets on Day 3 (Saturday 15th April 23)

1:45pm The EFT Systems Maghull Novices’ Steeple Chase (Class 1) Grade 1 2m

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: Jonbon is the clear form pick here and it will be a huge shock if the Arkle runner-up isn’t getting back to winning ways. Notlongtillmay and Calico can follow the Henderson horse home.

  • JONBON
  • NOTLONGTILLMAY
  • CALICO

2.25pm The Village Hotels Handicap Hurdle Premier Handicap (Class 1) 3m ½f ITV

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: Party Business won this race last year and looks worth sticking with. This Ian Williams runner is 5lbs higher this time, but you feel this race would have been the target again all season having raced only twice this year. The consistent pair of West Balboa for Harry Skelton and Mill Green for Nicky Henderson can do best of the rest.

  • PARTY BUSINESS (e/w)
  • WEST BALBOA
  • MILL GREEN

3.00pm The Turners Mersey Novices’ Hurdle (Class 1) Grade 1 2m 4f ITV

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: It was hard to not be impressed with the Jamie Snowden runner You Wear It Well when winning the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham last time. Yes, this is harder against the boys but gets a handy 7lbs allowance to ease the blow. Dark Raven will be popular for Mullins and Townend, while another Irish raider Letsbeclearabout it was 4th in the Albert Bartlett last time after 2 months off and should have improved for that.

  • YOU WEAR IT WELL (e/w)
  • DARK RAVEN
  • LETSBECLEARABOUTIT

3.35pm The JRL Group Liverpool Hurdle (Class 1) Grade 1 3m ½f ITV

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: Four of the first 5 home in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham meet again. Sire Du Berlais (won this race last year) was the hero that day but the second Dashel Drasher was only 3/4 of a length down and looks the value. Home By The Lee was 5th and should be thereabouts again, as can the two-time Stayers’ winner Flooring Porter.

  • DASHEL DRASHER (e/w)
  • FLOORING PORTER
  • HOME BY THE LEE

4.15pm The William Hill Freebooter Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 1) Grade 3 3m 1f ITV

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: Evan Williams often does well at this meeting with this runners so a chance is taken on his Coconut Splash. Yet to win over fences, but has been in the top three 8 times from his 9 runs. A second at Hereford back in January was a fair run and gets in here with just 10-2 to carry. Midnight River and Eldorado Allen are two other decent options in a very open affair.

  • COCONUT SPLASH (e/w)
  • MIDNIGHT RIVER
  • ELDORADO ALLEN

5:15pm The Randox Grand National Steeple Chase (Premier Handicap) 4m 2½f ITV

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: The money has come for the Rachael Blackmore runner Ain’t That A Shame and it’s not hard to see why. This Henry De Bromhead horse gets into the race with just 10-5 in weight which is a similar burden to what their 2021 winner Minella Times carried to victory. The horse was last seen winning well at Gowran Park and was a close second to The Big Dog in the Munster National back in October. Of the rest, Longhouse Poet was 6th in the race last year and can get closer this time, while at bigger prices Lifetime Ambition and Roi Mage look overpriced. It could be Ireland all the way this year again!

  • AIN’T THAT A SHAME (e/w)
  • LONGHOUSE POET
  • ROI MAGE
  • LIFETIME AMBITION

6.20pm The Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (Grade 2) 2m 1f

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 AINTREE TIPS: The Fergal O’Brien yard have had a good meeting so far, so their horses are clearly in good order. So, a chance is taken on their once-raced Go To War. This 5 year-old could be anything after winning on debut at Uttoxeter, while connections have taken their time with him with that race coming back in October. The Nicholls runner Centara and Mullins entry Blizzard Of Oz come from big yards and will also be popular.

  • GO TO WAR (e/w)
  • BLIZZARD OF OZ
  • CENTARA
