Rachael Blackmore With Two Rides on Aintree Day 3
After a decent showing at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival, Rachael Blackmore is here for the Grand National Festival at Aintree. Last year, Blackmore didn’t have any winners judging by the 2022 Grand National results. However, she is still widely regarded as one of the world’s best jockeys and has already won multiple times this week at Aintree.
On Day 1, Rachael Blackmore had three rides which resulted in one winner. She also had a winner with Inthepocket on Day 2. On Saturday, she again takes the reigns on two rides for trainer Henry De Bromhead on the third and final day at Aintree.
These rides include Ain’t That A Shame in the showpiece Grand National. The 9-year-old has been backed in from huge odds and is now the outright betting favourite for the 2023 Grand National.
Blackmore, who won the 2021 Grand National with Minella Times, also has another ride on day three along with Ain’t That A Shame.
She has Marvel De Cerisy for trainer Henry De Bromhead in the Maghull Novices’ Chase (1.45pm).
Blackmore is now priced at 4/1 with leading bookmaker 10Bet to be the 2023 Grand National Festival top jockey.

MARVEL DE CERISY (Maghull Novices’ Chase – 1.45pm): @ 10/1 with 10Bet
Rachael Blackmore’s first ride on Day 3 of the Grand National Festival comes in the form of Marvel De Cerisy in the Maghull Novices’ Chase at 1.45pm in the opening race on the final day of the 2023 Grand National Festival. Marvel De Cerisy is priced as a 14/1 outsider with the best horse racing betting sites and looks to be up against it here in this Grade 1 novice chase over the two-mile trip.
Despite being well down in the betting, this 6-year-old has won before over fences and could well improve running over a shorter distance than he has been facing recently. The gelding’s last outing was at Cheltenham last month in the Festival where he finished nineth in the Magners Plate Handicap Chase.
Marvel De Cerisy did keep on well down the run-in but was slightly outpaced. This step back in trip could really suit the French horse and could bring a new lease of life to him. Outside chance for Blackmore in the opener.
AIN’T THAT A SHAME (Grand National Handicap Chase – 5.15pm): @ 12/1 with 10Bet
Blackmore’s final ride of the entire 2023 Grand National Festival at Aintree comes in the big one. The Irish superstar jockey takes the reigns aboard Ain’t That A Shame in the Randox Grand National Handicap Chase. At 12/1 with the best Grand National odds, Ain’t That A Shame certainly has leading claims here in this 4 1/2 mile steeple chase over the Grand National fences.
The 9-year-old gelding runs off a mark of 10st 5lbs here in this steeple chase and comes into this one with some reasonable form backing up his chances. Ain’t That A Shame’s last run resulted in a win back in March at Gowran Park when he won by six lengths to Macs Charm. He ran off top weight that day (11st 12lbs) so is down a stone-and-a-half for this Grand National slog.
Ain’t That A Shame has never ran anywhere near the 4m 2 1/2f distance, with his longest run coming back at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival in the Kim Muir over 3m 2f. Will need to have improved his stamina considerably if he is to challenge the likes of Delta Work, Noble Yeats or Corach Rambler. However, never rule a Blackmore horse out. She has won this race before and will give it another right good go this year.
