Kieran Trippier Welcomes Anthony Gordon to Newcastle With a Video of The Duo Squaring Up to Each other

Kieran Trippier welcomed his new teammate Anthony Gordon with a comical post on Instagram showing the pair exchanging heated words earlier in the season.

The 21-year-old completed a £45m transfer to Tyneside last week to become Newcastle’s first signing of the January window, and give manager Eddie Howe some much needed depth up-front following the departure of Chris Wood.

Prior to making the move official, much had been made about a potentially awkward scenario when Gordon and Newcastle right-back Kieran Trippier meet in the dressing room for the first time.

Earlier in the Premier League season the Magpies ran out eventual 1-0 winners against Everton, and during the game Trippier and Gordon were seen embroiled in a heated confrontation with one another.

Any qualms over awkwardness between the pair have been quickly put to bed in one swift Instagram post from the Newcastle captain, who greeted the latest addition to the squad with footage of them almost coming to blows, along with a tagline reading: “Here we go. Welcome bro.”

Another of Trippier’s teammates Callum Wilson also poked fun at the club’s new arrival, posting photos of Gordon going toe-to-toe with the likes of Nick Pope and Fabian Schar in the aftermath of the scuffle with Trippier. Along with the series of pictures, Wilson captioned it, “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.”

Across 78 appearances for the Toffees, Gordon registered just seven goals and eight assists, and will have to hit the ground running immediately if he is to dispel any doubts over the £45m fee paid for his services – this makes him Newcastle’s second-most expensive signing ever.
