Ahead of the 2022 World Cup kicking off in Qatar, for the majority of the world, it comes as temperatures drop and Jack Frost visits every morning, and come cold months, come more injuries.
Before the tournament started, lots of big names were ruled out with injuries and it seemed a lot more than before the start of any other World Cup, which traditionally have been in warm, countries in the summer. Yes Qatar is warm, however everywhere else, especially most of Europe are entering their coldest months of the year.
In case you missed it… Sadio Mané and Karim Benzema have been ruled out of the World Cup. 💔

Let’s now take a dive into how many players missed out on this year’s World Cup.
Players That Are Missing Due To Injury In Qatar
There have been a lot of injuries leading up to this tournament which fell half way into the European domestic league, where most players in the tournament play football regularly, and France have been hit rather hard.
- Karim Benzema (France)
- Presnel Kimpembe (France)
- Lucas Hernandez (France)
- Paul Pogba (France)
- N’Golo Kante (France)
- Mike Maignan (France)
- Christopher Nkunku (France)
- Timo Werner (Germany)
- Florian Wirtz (Germany)
- Marco Reus (Germany)
- Diogo Jota (Portugal)
- Georginio Wijnaldum (Netherlands)
- Diego Carlos (Brazil)
- Ben Chilwell (England)
- Reece James (England)
- Amine Harit (Morocco)
- Sadio Mane (Senegal)
Notable Names That Missed The Russia World Cup Due To Injury
- Sergio Romero (Argentina)
- Manuel Lanzini (Argentina
- Dani Alves (Brazil)
- Laurent Koscielny (France)
- Dimitri Payet (France)
- Karim Benzema (France)
- Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (England)
- Joe Gomez (England)
- Niklas Bendtner (Denmark)
As you can see from the list above, these are a few of the notable names that missed out on Russia 2018 in the offseason due to injury, and there’s a lot less and nowhere near the amount of big names missing as there is in Qatar this year.
And many say this is due to the tight schedule that sides have had to partake in leading up to the World Cup
