At first glance Adam Wedges’ Southwell stats don’t look especially compelling but if we ignore his rides for Evan Williams (just seven winners from 84 runners) things start to look a little rosier. His 126 rides for other trainers have yielded 17 winners (expected winners = 13) and 30 second or third places. His fancied mounts (first or second favourites) were 12 from 29 for a profit of £10.70, with ten of the 17 beaten horses finishing second or third. He rides a 100-1 shot in the bumper today but his other mounts are a best-priced 11-8, 3-1, 4-1 and 11-2, and I’ve bought his performance index at 45 with Spreadex.

Progeny of the sire Churchill have a terrible record on their racecourse debuts. The two-year-olds have won just once from 70 runners and the three-year-olds are 0-12. We have two Churchills making their racecourse debuts in this 6f juvenile maiden – 7-2 second favourite TARJEEH (16-19 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market) and 12-1 shot CHARTWELL HOUSE, whose spread is set at 6-8. Both are drawn high – in stalls 10 and 8 respectively – and my first thought was to sell DOUBLE DRAW OF WINNER at 11.75. However, there’s money around for TENJIN (stall 9), which could throw a spanner in the works, so individual sells is the preferred option.
Recommendation: Oppose TARJEEH and CHARTWELL HOUSE in Windsor 5.35
