The Importance of Football Predictions Today

Football predictions

As we stated in our introduction, today’s football predictions are more popular and necessary than ever. A number of factors have come together to create this situation.

Firstly, the sport of football has grown massively over the last 30 years or so. This mirrors the rise of top betting sites in the UK with the advent of the internet. Football has always been popular since its invention, but before the 1990s there weren’t remotely the amount of games televised as there are today.

Now there are multiple sports channels and live streaming outlets, showing matches from all over the world. On any day, at any time of the year, there are matches available to watch live.

This situation has evolved over a period in which the betting industry has also enjoyed tremendous growth. The availability of online betting sites has opened up gambling to people across the world.

Fuelling that growth has been football. Go to any online bookie and you’ll see football is at the front and centre of all they do. Football sections and markets will be displayed prominently, with many football betting sites live streaming games themselves.

From Back Pages to Internet Browsers

Bookies also use football within their betting promotions, in order to attract users. Some even run special sites offering football predictions and tips, in the hope of attracting new users and giving something extra back to their existing ones.

Off the back of the popularity and both football and betting, an industry has been spawned. Football tips and predictions were the preserve of newspaper sport sections and specialist betting publications such as the Racing Post.

The internet has created an environment where tipping websites can flourish, whether they’re run by bookmakers, or independent sites like Sportslens that give out football bet predictions for free.

There’s also and a whole wealth of statistical sites that help professional tipsters and the general public alike to form conclusions about the outcome of football matches. The days of picking out results due to a hunch, or a modicum of football knowledge are over. When it comes to being informed about football, fans have never had it so good.

What are Football Predictions And Tips

If you’ve never frequented the sort of websites that give out this sort of information, you may be wondering what today’s football predictions look like. Let’s start simply. If you follow football yourself, chances are that you have an opinion as to which team will win the Premier League this season. That in itself is a prediction.

For tipsters their job is a little bit more complicated. They have to marry their predictions as to what will happen in a match, or football season, with their opinion on whether the bet is available at a price that’s worth recommending.

So a tipster might think that Manchester City will win the title, but they won’t necessarily recommend them in the outright Premier League betting on that outcome if they think that the price is too slim. Tipsters look for that sweet sport between certainty and value.

They want a bet that will be successful, but will only recommend it if it’s the right price. A value bet is one in which the actual price is equal or greater, than the price that the tipster thinks it should be, based on how likely they think it is to occur.

What to Look for in a Tipster

Making this calculation is not an exact science. The tipster has to use their experience and research to determine how likely a bet is to be successful and what the price should therefore be. If that sounds a little unreliable, remember that you can check the records of tipsters.

If they’re delivering a profit, chances are that their football bet predictions are more often right than wrong. Tipsters use their skills to make predictions on all sorts of events and markets. There are long-term predictions that will play out over a season, such as which team will win leagues, or be relegated.

Then there are individual football match predictions, such as what will be the result, or how many goals will be scored. We will go through some of the different types of football betting predictions that are available, in the forthcoming sections.

Weekend Football Predictions

The bulk of all football matches that are played will take place at the weekend. Consequently, there are lots of weekend football fixtures predictions for punters to enjoy and make use of.

Weekend football predictions fall into two categories. Saturday games and Sunday matches. Of the two, it’s Saturday which is the busier day, with more matches and therefore you’ll find more football predictions for Saturday.

In the UK, there was a time when all weekend league and cup matches would be played on a Saturday, at exactly the same time. The influence of television has seen a major shift, with the footballing weekend expanded to start on a Friday evening and go right through to Monday night.

Yet Saturday remains the busiest day in the football calendar. Rather than all games kicking off at the same time, they are spread out across the day. The first Premier League match on a Saturday will be at lunchtime. Then there will be at least three in mid-afternoon, an early evening game and sometimes even one on Saturday night.

That’s not to mention the rest of the English Football League (EFL), non-league divisions and competitions across the world. A football fan can sit in front of their TV or streaming device and watch one match after another, all day long. It’s little wonder, then, that there is such a demand for Saturday football predictions.

When Predictions Go Live & Growth of Sundays

Football predictions for Saturday can appear as early as the Wednesday before and then really start to flood through on the Thursday and Friday. Predictions for Sunday games will generally appear among football betting tips on Friday and Saturday.

There are less games on a Sunday, but they can often be the biggest fixtures. So the Premier League for example have a late afternoon game televised on a Sunday, as this is the slot that tends to attract the biggest audience. The broadcaster will generally be keen for big derby games or title deciding matches to be placed in this slot.

Throw in the fact that many teams competing in the UEFA competitions played on a Thursday night, will then have their league games played on a Sunday and you can see why there are more matches than ever played on the last day of the weekend.

There are also countries such as Italy that traditionally played all of their games on a Sunday. Even though they too have spread their fixtures across the weekend, the bulk of their league games still take place on Sunday each week.

Weekend football fixtures predictions are big business. You’ll find a huge amount of Saturday football predictions each week and these will be followed by plenty more for Sunday’s matches.

Football Result Predictions

As we’ve discussed, there are a lot of matches played at the weekend. There are also lots of midweek fixtures. With domestic leagues and cups, continental club competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and international tournaments and friendlies, there are a huge amount of football games played.

Even at quieter times of the year, there will be dozens of games taking place somewhere. Consequently the most common type of tip are football results predictions. The simplest bet in football is when you place a wage on what the match result will be.

It’s often expressed as 1 X 2 by bookies. So will Team A (1) win, or will it be a draw (X), or will Team B (2) win? If you were looking for football predictions this weekend, you would find a lot of ones that are focused on the result.

Many will come from sites connected to the betting industry, but there will even be football result predictions that you can find in the mainstream football media. If people are writing or talking about a game, what could be more natural than giving an opinion on the match result?

Expect a Variety of Picks

Betting tipsters can often be more specific about the result in order to recommend the right bet. So if they think a team will win, but also have some doubts, they might go for Draw No Bet, where the stake is returned if the game is a draw.

Or they might recommend backing a team Double Chance, which means that the bet will be successful as long as the side either wins or draws. Alternatively, they could look to give football results predictions that add to the value of the bet.

So they might predict the result and both teams to score, or the result and either over/under 2.5 goals. Handicap markets are used to make uneven betting markets more appealing. So a big favourite in a football match might be given a handicap of -2.

That means that if you back the team to win with -2, they have to win by a margin of three or more goals for the bet to be successful. There are all sorts of match result related markets that are covered by tipsters giving football bet predictions. In the next section, we’re going into detail about one of the most popular examples.

Football Score Predictions

If you’re looking for a very specific match result prediction, then you can’t get much more precise than the actual final score. While the match result only has three possible outcomes – a home win, draw, or away win – there are a huge variety of different scorelines that could occur. It’s tough for correct score tipsters to get this right.

Just think about the different scores that can come from a home win. There’s 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-0, 3-1, 3-2, 4-0, 4-1, 4-2 and 4-3, before you even get the the possibility of the home side scoring five goals or more.

Naturally, picking out an exact score is much more difficult for those making football betting predictions, than merely predicting the result. As you’d expect though, this is reflected in the odds. High-scoring matches in particular, come with big odds and in general correct score markets are very popular with punters.

As there are large prices available, correct score betting allows the punter to have a low-stakes bet that can pay out big. Consequently, there is a demand for football score predictions from tipsters. Don’t expect their strike-rate to be quite as high as it would be for other markets, but with higher odds, it doesn’t necessarily have to be.

Mathematical Football Predictions

As we mentioned earlier, there are many result based bets that concentrate on the margin of victory. So there are handicap betting markets and also plenty of markets which just specify how many goals a team with win by. You could for example, back Manchester City for victory by two goals or more.

When it comes to evaluating these markets, experts giving football tips and predictions will use statistics to come to their conclusions. Very obvious ones to look at are how many goals the teams involved have scored and conceded, both over the course of the season and over recent games.

A fairly recent statistical development has been the notion of expected goals, or xG as it’s often known. It’s a statistical model that predicts how many goals a team should be scoring or conceding, based on the quality of chances being created. So a chance created within the six-yard box of the penalty area would increase the xG more than a speculative shot from long range.

xG ratings are widely available and can be very useful when making mathematical football predictions. If a team have not been scoring too many goals, but have a high xG score, then there’s the chance that the goals will eventually start to come. The odds will tend to reflect the actual goals being scored, rather than the xG, so there’s a chance for a tipster to uncover a value bet.

Football Match Predictions Games

As an addition to their regular betting products, many bookies provide free to play football predictions games. These generally feature real cash prizes, so it’s a great little extra to be able to offer to their users.

Fans love to give football predictions for today’s matches and indeed, do so naturally when talking about upcoming games with their friends. These type of prediction games evoke the pools games which were once so popular. As they’re free, punters have absolutely nothing to lose from giving them a go.

As well as predicting scores, there are some games that are based around fantasy football. In these games you are predicting which players will score, assist or keep a clean sheet. Millions of people will be making these sort of football predictions this weekend and with the popularity of fantasy games, it’s inevitable that closer links with the betting industry will develop.
