York Horse Racing Trends and Tips Including the York Stakes
2.05 – Sky Bet ‘Jump Jockeys’ Nunthorpe’ Handicap (To Be Ridden By Professional Jump Jockeys) Cl3 (4yo+ 0-90) 5f ITV
Just a handful of past runnings of this jump jockeys’ flat race but we’ve already seen 4 winners aged between 5-7 years-old and carrying between 10-8 and 11-1 in weight.
These two York horse racing trends coupled give pluses for Prospect, Soul Seeker, who also won this race in 202. and Ecclesiastical.
The other stat to note is that trainer Paul Midgley has a fine record in the race – winning three of the last 5 – and so his runners Glory Fighter, Majeski Man, Prospect, Van Gerwen, Leodis Dream and Strong Johnson must be respected too.
- Just 5 previous runnings
- 4/5 – Aged between 5-7 (inc)
- 4/5 – Carried between 10-8 and 11-1 in weight
- 3/5 – Won by trainer Paul Midgley
- 2/5 – Ridden by Tom Scudamore
- 1/5 – Winning favourite
- Birkenhead (25/1) won the race in 2022
- Soul Seeker (11/2) won the race in 2021
2.40 – Sky Bet Dash Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 6f ITV
With ALL of the last 19 winners having raced in the last 5 weeks this is a big plus and would be a negative for Barefoot Angel and International Girl.
Being drawn in stalls 10 or lower is another York horse racing trend to look for here, while horses aged 5 or younger have also fared best in the last 19 runnings.
Those that catch the eye are It Just Takes Time, Lucky Man and Abduction.
- 19/19 – Raced within the last 5 weeks
- 17/19 – Carried 8-12 or more
- 16/19 – Had won between 2-6 times before
- 16/19 – Returned 10/1 or shorter in the betting

3.15 – Sky Bet York Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m2½f ITV
Having raced in the last 4 weeks is a big plus for the York horse racing trends here – so this is not ideal for Alflaila, who was last out back in October 22. Royal Champion was a nice winner of the Listed Wolferton Stakes last time out at Royal Ascot, but this is a big step up in grade and really the one to beat is the William Haggas-trained My Prospero.
He’s been highly tried in recent runs this season – running at the highest level – so back into a Group Two here should do the trick. The last time he dropped into this company he won and that also came around this time of the year 12 months ago.
- 16/17 – Aged 6 or younger
- 15/17 – Favourites that finished in the top 3
- 14/17 – Had raced within the last 4 weeks
- 14/17 – Had won at least 4 times before
- 13/17 – Had won over 1m2f before
- 12/17 – Finished in the top 3 last time out
- 12/17 – Rated between 110 and 117
- 11/17 – Horses from stall one that finished in the top two
- 10/17 – Had run at York before
- 8/17 – Ran at Sandown last time out
- 6/17 – Winning favourites
- 4/17 – Aged 6 years-old
- 2/17 – Trained by Saeed Bin Suroor
