Willie Mullins With 17 Runners on Cheltenham Day 1
Willie Mullins has been the top trainer a record nine Cheltenham Festivals. He won his first ‘Top Trainer’ crown back in 2011 and has since won that title another eight times. Mullins has been the top trainer at the Cheltenham Festival for the past four years in a row and will aim to make that a fifth this time around. The Irish racing trainer will be hoping to replicate this form with a stellar showing at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.
The 66-year-old has 88 winners to his name in the Cheltenham Festival over the years. This includes two Gold Cups, four Champions Hurdles, seven Supreme Novices’ Hurdles and five Ballymore Novices’ Hurdles to name but a few.
On Day 1, Willie Mullins has 17 intended runners on Tuesday 14th March. These runners include State Man, who is the second favourite for the Champion Hurdle, plus likely favourites Facile Vega (1:30) and Galliard Du Mesnil (5:30)

The 2019 & 2020 back-to-back Gold Cup winning-trainer with Al Boum Photo also has 17 more runners on day one along with State Man on Day 1.
The Irish trainer believes hie has a few excellent chances to win some races on Day 1 such as State Man in the Champions Hurdle and Facile Vega in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. However, he certainly has a few other big chances on Day 1 at Cheltenham this year to get off to a flying start.
Mullins is priced at 1/8 as the overriding betting favourite to be the 2023 Cheltenham Festival Top Trainer.
