The King George favourite ahead of the big Boxing Day feature at Kempton Park is always the main horse punters look for. So, just who is heading into the festive horse race being feared the most by the bookmakers?

Allaho The New Betting Favourite For 2023 King George Chase

Cheveley Park StudThe Willie Mullins-trained Allaho is the new King George 2023 favourite for the big Kempton race on Boxing Day.

This 9 year-old had been the general third in the betting behind Gerri Colombe (now non-runner) and Bravemansgame. However, with his County Carlow trainer saying the all is going to plan with sending his two-time Cheltenham Festival Ryanair Chase winner over, the money is starting to come for the Cheveley Park-owned chaser.

Allaho has seen a flood of money in recent days and is now the new King George betting favourite – coming in from 7/2 to around 13/8. And even shorter in places.

This market move has also come about due to the best UK horse racing betting sites reporting little interest in last year’s winner Bravemansgame and also with the news that Gerri Colombe is now a non-runner.

Having had his issues, Allaho returned from a 561-day break last month to win the Clonmel Oil Chase (watch below), while prior to that had slammed the two-time King George winner Clan Des Obeaux by 14 lengths in the 2022 Punchestown Gold Cup.

If successful, Allaho would be the third King George VI Chase winner for trainer Willie Mullins after winning it in 2001 with Florida Pearl and 2021 with Tornado Flyer.

King George Favourites 2023: Bravemansgame Next Best In The Market

Bryan Drew silksThe King George VI Chase market was shaping up to be a tight affair, but in recent days there have been several sub-plots in the betting forming.

As we countdown to the race, the best UK horse racing betting sites were finding it hard to split last year’s winner Bravemansgame and the new kid on the staying block – Gerri Colombe – in a bid to find the outright King George favourite.

But we now know that Allaho, who had been third behind the pair, has now leapfrogged the duo to become the new Kempton market leader.

Top bookmaker, BetMGM, where you can get a £40 free bet to use on the King George (see below), now have the former favourites out to 5/1 – but a lot can change between now and the race on Tuesday 26th December.

We can be sure that last year’s winner Bravemansgame will be back to defend his crown, while the latest news coming out of the Gordon Elliott camp is that his Gerri Colombe now WON’T run and is being aimed at the Savills Chase on Dec 28th.

If he can follow-up, Bravemansgame will be looking to join other Paul Nicholls dual winners in the race – See More Business, Kauto Star, Silviniaco Conti and Clan des Obeaux. But some of the best betting sites are reporting last year’s winner as ‘Friendless’ in the market.

With Bravemansgame yet to win a race since taking the King George last season, some are questioning if his hard race in the Gold Cup has left its mark.

Does The King George Favourite Have A Good Record?

The last King George favourite to win was Might Bite in 2017 – since then we’ve had five market leaders fall by the wayside, including 12 months ago when L’Homme Presse fell as the 9/4 jolly.

During this spell of five non-winning King George favourites, we’ve also had 20/1 (Frodon) and 28/1 (Tornado Flyer) winners.

However, if we delve further back in the King George trends, these tell us the markets leaders still have a top record.

In the last 21 runnings of the Kempton race we’ve had eleven winning favourites, which works out at a 52% strike-rate.

Plus, the favourites also have a cracking record of placing. The last 21 renewals have seen 76% jollies hit the frame.
