When does the 2023 Premier League summer transfer window close will be a popular question football fans will be asking as we head towards the end of August.
The Premier League Summer Transfer Window Closes On Friday September 1st 2023
This summer’s football transfer window in the Premier League opened on Wednesday June 14th and over the hottest months of the year the 20 top flight sides have been frantically trying to bolster their squads – as well as sell any players deem surplus to requirements.
We’ve seen some big transfers during the 2023 summer that include Declan Rice making the trip across London from West Ham to Arsenal for a reported £105m.
While other big talking points have seen James Maddison depart relegated Leicester City for Tottenham, Andre Onana arrived at Manchester United from Inter Milan and World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister swapping the Brighton south coast for Merseyside and Liverpool.
But with the new Premier League season (2023/24) now in full swing when does the summer transfer window close?
Premier League Summer Transfer Deadline Day Is Friday September 1st 2024
Yes, despite the new 2023/24 Premier League season now three games in there is still some days left for the 20 top-flight sides to delve into the transfer market.
The famous ‘Deadline Day’ date for this summer’s transfer activity will be on Friday September 1st 2023.
Plus, with Premier League fixtures on September 2nd, then players bought (providing all the paperwork is up to date) could in theory be in action for their new clubs as soon as the next day.
The Next Premier League Transfer Window Will Open On January 1st 2024
Then, once the door closes on the summer transfer window on Friday September 1st 2023, the Premier League sides are stuck with that bunch of players until January 1st 2024 – when the winter transfer window opens and will run for the whole of the month – ending on Wednesday 31st January 2024.
Can Teams Get Players After The Transfer Deadline On Loan?
No – however, the only exception under EFL rules will allow a team to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan as long as that side’s keepers in their current squad are unavailable through injury or suspension.
In short if a player is contracted to a club they can’t move to another outside the transfer window. If a player is a ‘free agent’ though (not attached to a club), they can join another side at any point of the year.
