Welsh Grand National Betting Tip
The Venetia Williams yard won the Welsh Grand National back in 2014 with Emperor’s Choice and with three other trainers with the surname ‘Williams’ having won the Welsh Grand National since, then it seems being called Williams is a lucky charm now.
Anyway, Venetia has the likely Welsh Grand National favourite in QUICK WAVE running this year and this 9 year-old mare looks to have a big chance of adding to the good record of the market leaders in this race in recent years.
She was a tidy winner at Sandown Park earlier this month and with only a 4lb hike in the ratings to deal with looks to have been given a great chance by the handicapper.
Of the rest, The Big Dog, The Galloping Bear, plus course winners Ask Me Early, Pats Fancy and The Big Breakaway all certainly have claims, but it’s the Paul Nicholls-trained Truckers Lodge that catches the eye of those at bigger prices. This 10 year-old was actually third in the race last year and having been running a bit below-par since gets in this year on a 9lb lower mark.
Truckers Lodge is also ridden by young Freddie Gingell, who will claim 7lbs, and with the race being run in memory of his mum (Kim Gingell) then there will be no more fitting winner.
