Freddie Gingell Rides Truckers Lodge In 2022 Welsh Grand National In Race Named in Honour Of His Mum
Freddie Gingell, who is the grandson of top former trainer Colin Tizzard, lost his mum Kim Gingell in May 2020 so will be hoping to win this year’s Welsh Grand National which is being run in her memory.
Kim Gingell is also the brother to Joe Tizzard, who has taken over the training operation from Colin and has The Big Breakaway @ 14/1 with BetUK in the 2022 race, but Freddie Gingell has been booked by Paul Nicholls to ride the 2021 Welsh Grand National third TRUCKERS LODGE @ 14/1 with BetUK.
Therefore, all eyes will be on young conditional Freddie Gingell as he bids to win the 2022 Welsh Grand National in memory of his late mum and make it a fairy tale renewal of Chepstow’s biggest race on their fixture list.
Kim Gingell passed away in May 2020 after a short battle with cancer and had played a key role in assisting her father Colin and brother Joe in making the Colin Tizzard stable one of the leading National Hunt yards in the country.
Truckers Lodge Has Solid Welsh National Form
Freddie Gingell’s 2022 Welsh Grand National ride – Truckers Lodge – was third in the big Chepstow race 12 months ago and gets in this year off a 9lbs lower mark (watch below). Add in that Freddie is also able to claim a handy 7lbs, then the Paul Nicholls-trained 10 year-old is actually 16lbs lower than in 2021. He was also 7th in the 2020 Welsh National off a 14lb higher rating and runner-up in the 2019 running.
Truckers Lodge is therefore running in his fourth Welsh National on Tuesday 27th December and with a silver and bronze medal already to his name will be hoping to add gold.
