Fabrizio Romano has exclusively revealed that Tottenham have opened direct talks with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg over the transfer of Dutch central defender Micky van de Ven.

After pulling out of signing Clement Lenglet from Barcelona permanently, Tottenham have opened talks with Wolfsburg over the availability of Micky van de Ven.

Spurs are in the market for a new central defender. Davinson Sanchez is expected to depart this summer and Eric Dier could also be shown the door.

Van de Ven isn’t the only Bundesliga centre-back to have been identified as a target for the north Londoners, but also Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.

Romano confirmed that the pair are both on Tottenham’s list of targets, however Tapsoba is more expensive than his Dutch counterpart.

The news was revealed on Romano’s social platforms on Wednesday afternoon.

“Tottenham have opened direct talks with Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven. Dutch centre back is among top targets.” he tweeted.

“Verbal proposal set to be submitted as van de Ven is keen on the move.

“Edmond Tapsoba remains among options on Spurs list — but he’s more expensive.”

Van de Ven moved to Germany from Dutch side Volendam in 2021, breaking into Wolfsburg’s first team this season.

In what would be considered as his breakthrough campaign, he has made 36 appearances for the club in all competitions as they finished eighth in the German top-flight.

He is also an U21 international for the Netherlands, recently featuring in all three of his country’s group stage matches at the ongoing U21 European Championship.

Van de Ven was also named in the preliminary senior squad for the World Cup in Qatar, but failed to make the final cut.

The Dutchman is also said to be of interest to Liverpool, therefore if Wolfsburg are willing to sell – a move to England certainly looks on the cards.
