1:50 – Connaught Access Flooring Handicap Cl4 (3yo 0-85) 1m ITV4: GULMARG @ 10/1
Ran very well on his run back at Kempton at the end of last month (3rd) and with that also coming on his first run since being gelded that was a good sign he’s improved for the op. Back on the turf here is fine as he’s won twice on the grass, while connections have also booked the useful Harry Davies to take off a handy 3lbs from the saddle.
2:25 – Weatherbys Digital Solutions Handicap Cl2 (4yo+ 0-100) 6f ITV4: CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD @ 9/1 & ABOVE @13/2
Two picks in this competitive handicap for Tony Calvin. Chairmanoftheboard will be fitter for a return run at Doncaster at the start of the month and has also been dropped a pound for that. This Channon runner is slowly getting back to an attractive mark (88) after being rated in the mid 90’s last season. Tom Marquand rides and Calvin feels his turn again might not be far away.
Above is the other pick in the race. This Stuart Williams runner is another that would have benefitted from a run already this season, when 5th (of 10) at Chelmsford last month. The drop back to 6f (from 7f) is expected to suit and in this better-looking race gets in with just 8-10 to carry.
3:35 – Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies) Cl1 (3yo) 7f ITV4: QUEEN OLLY @12/1
This George Boughey-trained 3 year-old has been well-supported in the last 24 hours as Tony Calvin feels she’s the value call over the main players in the race like the Frankie-ridden Coppice. This filly was last seen running a fair second in the Listed Bosra Sham Fillies Stakes here at HQ in October. She ran on well that day over 6f too, so the step up another furlong and another winter on her back make her an interesting play at an each-way price too. The yard also won this race 12 months ago with Cachet, who went onto win the 1000 Guineas.
