Fennor Corss was down the field in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last time at the Cheltenham Festival but before that has won well twice at Prestbury Park. Will need to jump better, but the quicker ground will be a plus and connections has booked the useful Ben Harvey to take off a handy 5lbs.

• 4.05pm The Randox Supports Race Against Dementia Topham Chase (Premier Handicap) 2m 5f ITV: FANTASTIKAS (e/w) @ 20/1

Last seen running down the field in the Ultima Chase at Cheltenham but should be more at home on the better ground here. Has also tasted these fences when running in the Becher Chase (11th) here in December, plus has slipped to a handy-looking mark.

• 4.40pm The Cavani Menswear Sefton Novices’ Hurdle (Class 1) Grade 1 3m ½f ITV: APPLE AWAY @ 9/1, MOKA DE VASSY @ 50/1 & HURRICANE BAY @ 28/1

Apple Away caught the eye when winning well at Doncaster last month – making all. Should be well suited to this track based on that effort and despite this being harder this improving mare has won 3 of her 6 starts now and still looks on the up.

Moka De Vassy fell the last day at Cheltenham in the Pertemps, but it was early on (2nd flight) and seems none the worse for it. Yes, is yet to win a race (8 runs) yet stayed on well at Warwick two runs back over 2m7f to suggest he’s got more to give over these longer trips. Calvin feels the horse is overpriced.

Hurricane Bay is a consistent sort that was last seen winning easily at Doncaster. This will be harder but before that run was a fair third to Maximilian – keeping on well. Takes on that horse again but is the better value with Bryony Frost also a plus – she’s won her last two races on the horse.
