The 21-year-old was called up to Michael Reiziger’s side for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Moldova and North Macedonia. However, he has now pulled out to focus on settling in at Liverpool, following his deadline day move to Anfield.

Gravenberch signed a five-year-deal at Liverpool from Bayern Munich in the final few hours of the transfer window on Friday in a deal worth around £34m.

The former Bayern and Ajax midfielder was part of the Netherlands squad who disappointed in the U21 Euros during the summer, as the nation failed to make it out of the group stages after they did not win a single game.

Gravenberch completed Jurgen Klopp’s midfield overhaul after a mass exodus of players in that position. The Dutchman joins Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo as new midfield recruitments at Anfield.

The Netherlands announced the new Liverpool midfielder’s decision in a statement on Monday morning: “The Liverpool FC midfielder (Ryan Gravenberch) has indicated to KNVB coach Michael Reiziger that he wants to focus on his new club during the international match in September and will therefore not make himself available.”

20-year-old Fredde de Jong will now take his place in the squad as the Dutch youngsters start their European Championship qualifying campaign against Moldova and North Macedonia.
