The 2023 Gold Cup is all about one horse according to Ruby Walsh – step forward Galopin Des Champs. “All day, every day and I would love to be riding him. Noble Yeats could up being his biggest danger” Ruby told his Paddy Power followers.
Galopin Des Champs has been the big Gold Cup favourite for much of the season and even though his had two mixed Festivals so far, Ruby feels he can win the biggest race of the lot. He took the Martin Pipe back in 2021 but disaster struck in the Turners last year when falling at the last.
He’s since win three times since that tumble, including the Irish Gold Cup the last day at Leopardstown. He’s still only 7 too and many feel there is a lot more in the locker. His form makes him the one to beat and Ruby agrees.
Of the rest, it’s the 2022 Grand National winner, Noble Yeats that Ruby thinks will give the favourite most to think about.
