Ruby Walsh Cheltenham Tip For 2023 Gold Cup

Cheltenham Gold Cup Tip: GALOPIN DES CHAMPS @ 15/8

Legendary ex-jockey Ruby Walsh thinks the current Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite – GALOPIN DES CHAMPS – will justify his position at the head of the betting.

Walsh, who still rides out at the Willie Mullins yard, feels the 7 year-old has the best credentials to land the 2023 Cheltenham Festival showcase race.

The Gold Cup trip of 3m 2 1/2f will be the furthest Galopin Des Champs has gone, but the way the horse saw out the Irish Gold Cup trip (3m) last time suggests the extra yardage will be fine. (Watch below)

Ruby Told His Paddy Power Blog

“He’s relaxed, he’s a mature horse this year. The horse was good in the John Durkan and I thought he was very good at Leopardstown. “Galopin also has the ideal profile for a Gold Cup horse. He had the pace to win over shorter, he looks like he’ll get further. He ticks all the boxes.”

Festival fans will remember the heartache of Galopin Des Champs falling at the final fence in the Turners Novices’ Chase last season. However, since that tumble, he’s bounced back to win three times and will head into the Gold Cup 5-from-6 over fences.

The Ruby Walsh Gold Cup tip will face a strong challenge from last year’s Gold Cup winner A Plus Tard. While he’s also likely to meet the 2022 Grand National winner Noble Yeats and King George VI Chase hero Bravemansgame.
