Royal Ascot Best Bets: Horse Racing 1-2-3 Tips On Wednesday 21st June 2023
2.30pm – Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) 5f ITV
The Karl Burke camp won this prize last year and hold a strong hand again with Got To Love A Grey and Beautiful Diamond.
Both head here off the back of good wins, but the last-named filly just edges it having caught the eye with a 3 1/2 length success at Nottingham and it’s no secret the yard feel this 2 year-old is useful with some fancy entries later in the year.
Of the rest, the Wesley Ward US raider Bundchen must be considered too with his Keeneland barn winning 3 of the last 8.
3.05pm – Kensington Palace Stakes (Handicap) Old mile (round) ITV
The Owen Burrows yard have a fair 25% strike-rate with their 4-year-olds and up at the track, so a chance is taken on their Tarrabb here. This Exceed And Excel filly returned off a break to run a fair second at Chelmsford last time out and should be better for it.
She sports the tongue-tie here too and is also a proven course winner. William Buick riding is the icing on the cake. The Stoute-trained Crystal Caprice and Jessie Harrington runner from Ireland, Villanova Queen, are others to add to the mix.

3.40pm – Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2) 1m (straight) ITV
Jumbly blew away the cobwebs last time out with a decent second in a Curragh Group 2 at the end of May and will be spot-on for this now. Ryan Moore was in the saddle that day too and keeps the ride for Joseph O’Brien on this proven course winner.
Prosperous Voyage got up late to win at Epsom, so can go close with Frankie Dettori riding for Ralph Beckett. The Gosden yard has won 2 of the last 3 renewals, meanwhile, and have a chance of adding to that with course winner Grande Dame.
4.20pm – Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (Group 1) 1m 2f ITV
This should be a fascinating four-horse battle with Champion Stakes winner Bay Bridge, 2021 Epsom Derby winner Adayar, My Prospero and the Aidan O’Brien runner Luxembourg in the race. There is just 2lbs between the quartet in the ratings.
Cases can be made for them all but, with the yard having won 2 of the last 6 runnings, Luxembourg is the call after beating Bay Bridge by half-a-length in the Tattersalls Gold Cup last time out at the Curragh.
This Camelot colt has won 6 of his 9 starts and there’s no reason why he won’t be suited to Ascot on his first try at the Berkshire track. My Prospero and Bay Bridge can fight it out for the places with this trip short of his best for Adayar.

5.00pm – Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap) 1m (straight) ITV
Course winner Perotto is the verdict in a typically competitive Royal Hunt Cup, with a nice racing weight of 8-12 and a high draw in 30. This Roger Varian runner is also a proven course winner at the track and 18 of the last 21 winners have been aged 4 or 5.
Irish raider Dunum ticks a lot of boxes too and will have options from draw 11, while the Ryan Moore-ridden Sonny Liston is the final pick in a race where you could end up betting on half the field.
5.35pm – Queen’s Vase (Group 2) 1m 6f ITV
The stayers of the future are on show here and one promising sort in the making looks to be the Gosden runner – Gregory. This 3-year-old has impressed in winning both starts at Haydock and Goodwood last time out in a Listed event by 3 lengths.
Frankie Dettori rides too and, with a rating of already 110, Gregory is the 8lbs higher than his nearest rival. Of the rest, the in-form Charlie Johnston’s Hadrianus can get involved in a race his dad liked to target over the years, with Godolphin new purchase Chesspiece the other that appeals for the places.
6.10pm – Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed) 5f ITV4
This final day two Royal Ascot race is one that trainer Aidan O’Brien likes to target – winning it 3 times in the last 8 years. With that in-mind his Johannes Brahms is the call, who won well over 6f on debut at Naas.
Yes, he’s dropping back to 5f here but showed plenty of pace that day, but his proven stamina will also be a plus in the closing stages.
American raider Fandom was a very good winner on debut at Keeneland for the Wesley Ward barn last time and this is also a race the Kentucky handler has won twice in the past. Alice Haynes’ Amo Racing colt Maximum Impact has won both starts easily – including last time here at Ascot.
