CHEPSTOW 12.47
BOOM BOOM (system – Nicky Henderson, first run after wind surgery, January to March)
Nicky Henderson does well at this time of year with horses having their first start after wind surgery, scoring with 15 of the 56 qualifiers for a profit of £36.54 to a £1 level stake at SP. Plenty of the qualifiers had disappointed on their seasonal debuts in the autumn and we now running fresh after their wind issues had been identified and, hopefully, fixed. Just backing the hurdlers and bumper runners would have found 11 winners from 39 bets for a profit of £42.58. BOOM BOOM reportedly stopped quickly when a 30-length eighth in Crambo’s maiden hurdle at Ascot in November and is likely to do better today on the back of the wind operation.
KEMPTON 3.00
CLONDAW CASTLE (system – time of year)
CLONDAW CASTLE tends to come good in the second half of the season and had we only backed him from January to April we’d have won six of our 14 bets and made a profit of £12.83 to a £1 level stake at SP. In February only, those figures improve to three from three for a profit of £14.73. He goes especially well on right-handed tracks and won this valuable contest two years ago.
CHELMSFORD 7.10
HALIC (system – stable switchers, ex-Owen Burrows)
Horses who leave the acre of Owen Burrows often improve at the first time of asking for their new connections and had we backed all 71 qualifiers we’d have found 11 winners and made a profit of 38.75 to a £1 level stake at SP. HALIC, who changed hands for 16,000gns earlier this month, could be worth chancing on his debut for Robert Eddery.
