HAYDOCK 2.05
BRIGHT START (system – Saeed Bin Suroor, 4yo+ handicappers)
Saeed Bin Suroor has a phenomenal recent record with older handicappers (aged four or older), scoring with 85 of the 395 qualifiers (21.5% strike-rate) since the beginning of 2018 for a profit of £64.98 to a £1 level stake at SP (prior to Global Heat’s run in the 4.10 at Newmarket yesterday). BRIGHT START’s prominent style was at a big disadvantage when he contested a Class 2 handicap at Doncaster last time and it’s easy to forgive his ninth-place finish. He drops in grade today and this track is usually kinder to his running style.
HAYDOCK 2.40
SPEYCASTER (system – Ralph Beckett, first-time blinkers)
Since the beginning of 2016, Ralph Beckett has a 21 from 92 record with his first-time blinkered runners for a profit of £86.23 to a £1 level stake at SP (prior to Rechercher’s run in the 5.20 at Newmarket on Thursday). As well as sporting the headgear for the first time, SPEYCASTER is having his second run since gelded, another positive angle for his yard. He ran well in a higher grade over trip and track last time and any rain will aid his cause.
NEWMARKET 4.10
BALLYMORE VISION (system – Richard Hannon, Night Of Thunder progeny on 2yo debut)
The Hannon yard was responsible for 2000 Guineas winner Night Of Thunder, who also won on his two-year-old debut, and the sire’s juvenile offspring often go well at the first time of asking. Hannon has saddled ten of them previously with four winning for a profit of £34.67 to a £1 level stake at SP. The colts are four from seven, so perhaps BALLYMORE VISION, whose sales price rose from 95,000gns (foal) to 120,000gns (yearling), can make a mockery of his 20-1 forecast odds.
NEWCASTLE 6.45
RIBBON ROSE (system – Marco Botti, turf to Tapeta switchers)
Marco Botti has a 64 from 266 record on the Tapeta surfaces at Newcastle and Wolverhampton with horses who ran on turf last time out and backing them blind would have returned a profit of ÂŁ132.17 to a ÂŁ1 level stake at SP. RIBBON ROSE, who wears blinkers for the first time tonight, has been freshened up since beating only one home at Haydock in early August and could surprise on her Tapeta debut.
