Rachael Blackmore With Three Rides on Aintree Day 1
After a decent showing at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival, Rachael Blackmore is here for the Grand National Festival at Aintree. Last year, Blackmore didn’t have any winners judging by the 2022 Grand National results. However, she is still widely regarded as one of the world’s best jockeys and will be hopeful of a few winners this week at Aintree.
On Day 1, Rachael Blackmore has three rides on Thursday 13th April. These rides include A Plus Tard, who was of course the 2022 Gold Cup winner around Cheltenham. He features in the Aintree Bowl at 2.55pm and is current the third favourite to win the race behind Shishkin and Ahoy Senor.
Blackmore, who also won the 2021 Grand National with Minella Times, also has two more rides on day one along with A Plus Tard.
She’s also got Dancing On My Own for trainer Henry De Bromhead in the Red Rum Handicap Chase (4.40pm) and July Flower in the Mares’ Standard Open (5.15pm).
Blackmore is priced at 8/1 with leading bookmaker Rhino Bet to be the 2023 Grand National Festival top jockey.

What Horses Is Rachael Blackmore Riding On Day 1 Of The 2023 Grand National Festival?
Thursday 13th April 2023
A PLUS TARD (Aintree Bowl Chase – 2.55pm): @ 11/4 with Rhino Bet
Rachael Blackmore’s first ride on Day 1 of the Grand National Festival sees the former Gold Cup winner A Plus Tard contest the Aintree Bowl. This is the 9-year-old gelding’s first appearance at Aintree, but he is of course a former Gold Cup winner at the Cheltenham Festival and has all the credentials to go well today.
He will face a stern test from the likes of Shishkin and Ahoy Senor, but if A Plus Tard is at his best, he can win this race. Boasts strong form prior to his last two running’s in which he has pulled up. Interesting player here in the Aintree Bowl for Blackmore and trainer Henry De Bromhead.
DANCING ON MY OWN (Red Rum Handicap Chase – 4.40pm): @ 8/1 with Rhino Bet
Dancing On My Own is bidding to go one better than last year and win the Red Rum Handicap Chase. 12 months ago the 9-year-old gelding came second in this race behind The Last Day and could easily have won it. He is the 8/1 fourth favourite for that race after in terms of the best Grand National odds.
The form of Dancing On My Own is slightly worrying of late, but that was the case last year too and he came up with a huge run. You wouldn’t put it past Blackmore doing the same again and claiming a victory on Day 1 of the Grand National Festival.
JULY FLOWER (Mares’ Standard Open NH Flat Race – 5.15pm): @ 6/1 with Rhino Bet
Blackmore’s third and final ride on Day 1 at Aintree sees her saddle July Flower in the mares’ Standard Open in the last race of the day. Blackmore is of course more used to jumps racing, but has won her fair share of flat races too in the past.
July Flower is the 6/1 third favourite here and comes into this one with a perfect winning record of two wins from two starts. The French filly has looked brilliant so far and the 4-year-old certainly has another great chance here this afternoon with Blackmore in the saddle.
