1.25 – Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2) Cl1 2m ITV
1. ELDAR ELDAROV 2. Trueshan 3. Coltrane
ELDAR ELDAROV @ 11/4 with VirginBet was a tidy winner of the St Leger at Doncaster (watch below) last month, which was his fourth career win from his opening five races. The Roger Varian-trained 3 year-old powered home by 2 lengths that day over 1m6f, so there is every chance there is more to come now upped to 2m. Add in he’s a course winner, after taking the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot in June, then we know the track suits. He’s taken to continue his upwards curve getting a handy 9lbs from the two-time champ Trueshan.
Of the rest, it’s hard to ignore Trueshan, who has won the last two runnings of this race, but it’s a worry that he was beaten at 2/9 last time in the Doncaster Cup. He carried a big weight to win the Northumberland Plate back in June and I just wonder if that huge effort has left its mark.
Aidan O’Brien’s Waterville is another stayer on the up, but Coltrane, who lowered the colours of Trueshan last time in the Doncaster Cup, should run his race again and looks the each-way value.
Key Long Distance Cup Trends for Ascot Tips
- 17/20 – Raced within the last 5 weeks
- 17/20 – Won at Listed or better class previously
- 15/20 – Won at least 5 times previously

2.00 – Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 6f ITV
1. KINROSS 2. Creative Force 3. Naval Crown
KINROSS (e/w) @ 9/2 with VirginBet is in a rich vein of form at the moment – winning his last three, with the latest coming at Longchamp on Arc Day a few weeks ago. The drop back to 6f should be fine, while his proven stamina will be a plus on the stiff Ascot track and any more rain will a be a big bonus too. He’s the top-rated in the field and Frankie Dettori rides.
Last year’s winner, Creative Force can also go well and is probably the one to beat on his neck second in the G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. Tenebrism is interesting down in trip, but the other Godolphin runner in the field, Naval Crown, who actually won the already-mentioned Platinum Jubilee Stakes (watch below), can’t be ruled out having run too bad to be true in the Sprint Cup last time at Haydock.
Key British Champions Sprint Stakes Trends for Ascot Tips
- 19/20 – Won over 6f previously
- 19/20 – Won at least 3 times previously
- 18/20 – Raced within the last 6 weeks

- 13/20 – Raced at Haydock (8), Goodwood (2) or Newbury (3) last time out
- 11/20 – Favourites placed
- 4/20 – Won their latest race

2.40 –Â Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 1m4f ITV
1. MIMIKYU 2. Sea La Rosa 3. Eshaada
MIMIKYU (e/w) @ 6/1 with VirginBet can give trainer John Gosden his third win in this race since 2016. This improving 3 year-old filly was a top winner last time of the G2 Park Hill Stakes and had last year’s winner of this race, Eshaada, 2 3/4 lengths back in second. She’s now won three of her last four and having won over 1m 6 1/2f last time we know she’s got plenty of stamina for this 1m4f trip.
Of the rest, it’s hard to fault the top form of the William Haggas filly Sea La Rosa, who has won her last three. She landed the G1 Prix du Royallieu at Longchamp (watch below) last time over 1m6f so is another that will stay, plus any further rain will be fine.
While Eternal Pearl, for Godolphin, has won her last four and is clearly a filly on the up, but is raised up from Group Three to a Group One here so more on her plate again.
This season’s Epsom Oaks runner-up, Emily Upjohn, is the top-rated in the field but needs to bounce back from a poor run here in the King George in July. She returns from a 3-month break with the hood on this time, but Frankie has picked her over Mimikyu so is sure to be popular with punters.
Finally, Eshaada was the winner of this race last year and is back for more. She’s got ground to fine with Mimikyu, who beat her at Doncaster last time out, but the return to 1m4f here will suit her better after looking to not quite stay the longer trip last time.
Key British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes Trends
- 14/14 – Raced 3 or more times that season
- 13/14 – Won at Listed or better class previously

- 10/14 – Finished 1st or 2nd in their last race
- 10/14 – Won over 1m4f previously
- 10/14 – Rated 110 or higher
- 10/14 – Favourites placed
- 10/14 – Aged 3 years-old
- 9/14 – Returned between 4/1 and 6/1
- 7/14 – Won their last race

3.20 – Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 1m ITV
1. INSPIRAL 2. The Revenant 3. Modern Games
INSPIRAL @ 6/5 with VirginBet will be all the rage here to give trainer John Gosden this third QEII win since 2017. Frankie, Cheveley Park and Gosden all teamed-up with Persuasive in 2017 and it should be more of the same here. Inspiral’s only career loss (from 7 runs) came at Newmarket in the Falmouth Stakes this season, but is a filly that seems to like time between her races, so the 21 day since her last run was a valid excuse.
She’s since bounced back to win the G1 Prix Jacques Marois at Deauville (watch below) in the middle of August, but has been freshened up again (62 days) for this and also gets a handy 3lbs or 6lbs from the boys in the race!Â
Jadoomi is a tough and improving 4 year-old that has won his last three, but it’s hard to ignore the French raider The Revenant, who won this prize in 2020 and was fourth to Baaeed last year. Any further rain will be a big plus and despite being 7 now has shown this season he’s still retaining his ability.
Modern Games is the final one to have on your radar. This Godolphin 3 year-old was a cracking 5 1/4l winner of the Woodbine Mile in Canada and is expected to run well here before heading to the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland on Nov 5.
Key Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Trends for Ascot Tips
- 19/20 – Raced at least 3 times that season
- 18/20 – Aged 3 or 5 years-old
- 18/20 – Finished in the top three in their last race
- 18/20 – Raced at Goodwood, Longchamp or Leopardstown last time out

4.00 – Qipco Champion Stakes (British Champions Middle Distance) (Group 1) Cl1 1m2f ITV
1. BAAEED 2. Adayar 3. Bay Bridge
BAAEED @ 1/5 with VirginBet can bow out here with an eleventh career win before heading off to stud and remain unbeaten in the process. The second highest-rated horse on the planet at the moment has been a joy for his Shadwell owners and after stepping up to 1m2f last time to win the Juddmonte International at York (watch below), then we know the extra yardage is fine for this son of former Epsom Derby winner Sea The Stars. It will be one of the shocks of the season if he’s not winning this.
Baaeed’s main threat looks to be the 2021 Epsom Derby winner Adayar, who has had his issues since winning that Classic last season, but returned last time with an easy Conditions Stakes win at Doncaster to show he’s retained his ability despite 327-days off the track. This Godolphin 4 year-old was also 5th in this race last year.
Bay Bridge can complete the tricast, having been freshened up with 3 1/2 months off. This Stoute runner was an easy winner of the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in May and has since not disgraced at the highest level in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and Coral-Eclipse Stakes. He’s gone well fresh in the past and looks ready to go well again, albeit it will be a tall order to topple the mighty Baaeed.

4.40 – Balmoral Handicap (Sponsored By Qipco) Cl2 1m ITV
1. BLUE FOR YOU 2. Sweet Believer 3. Astro King
BLUE FOR YOU (e/w) @ 15/2 with VirginBet can go well for the David O’Meara yard that have done well in this race – winning two of the last 5 runnings. The stable also has the 2019 winner of the race Escobar, plus Orbaan, Rhoscolyn and Shelir, so they all command respect, but their main jockey has opted for Blue For You.
This 4 year-old didn’t get the best of runs here last time over 7f in the Challenge Cup, when behind stablemate Escobar, but the return to a mile will help with his latest runs over this trip reading 3-2-2-2-1.
Trainer William Haggas won the pot last year and his Sweet Believer will be trying to add to that success. A fair second at Sandown in a Listed race last time was a good run and back into a handicap and with Adam Farragher riding to claim 5lbs this gives her an added weight help from the saddle.
The final pick is the Stoute-trained Astro King with Ryan Moore riding. Ran too bad to be true last time at Pontefract, but the track might have been to blame there. Before that, was a close 4th in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot in June (watch below) and returns a pound lower and with the first-time visor this time. Moore sticks with him in the saddle too.
Key Balmoral Handicap Trends
- Just 8 previous runnings
- 7/8 – Aged 4 or 5 years-old
- 7/8 – Carried between 9-1 and 9-6 in weight
- 7/8 – Returned 8/1 or shorter in the betting
- 6/8 – Winners drawn 10 or lower
- 4/8 –Â Winners ran at Newmarket last time out
- 4/8 – Previous winners were aged 5 years-old
- 2/8 – Trained by David O’Meara
- 2/8 – Ridden by a claiming jockey
- 1/8 – Winning favourite
- Escobar won the race in 2019
- The average winning SP in the last 6 runnings is 10/1
- Trainers William Haggas, Jessie Harrington, Roger Varian, David O’Meara (2), Roger
- Charlton, Saeed Bin Suroor and Marcus Tregoning have won the race in the past
