Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2022 Stat Attack: Being Drawn Low Has Been Key In Recent Years
75% Of The Last 20 Prix de l’ Arc de Triomphe Winners Drawn 8 Or Lower
This draw stat is simply too significant to ignore. Over the last 20 runnings of the Arc, depsite the race being run over 1m4f, having a low draw at the start has been a certain advantage.
Many feel that over this middle-distance trip that the draw doesn’t really play a part – with horses having plenty of time to get into the race no matter what stall they’ve been handed at the start.
Wrong!
Having a good early position in the Arc has been key to saving valuable ground and not having to sweep wide around the home turn. Using up energy early on in the race to overcome a wide draw and get a better position during the first half of the race can take it’s toll in the closing stages and this can be the difference between winning or losing an Arc.
Plus, with a maximum of 20 runners in the race this year, then having to come from a bad position once turning in could easily see traffic problems.
The Draw Stats Don’t Lie
This is backed up with the recent 20 year draw stats that tell us a massive 75% of those winners came from stalls 8 or lower.
Yes, last year’s winner – Torquator Tasso – defied this stat when winning from stall 12, but this year the German current champ has been handed an even wider stall in 18, so you feel his jockey, Frankie Dettori, will have to work some magic from there if he’s to defend his crown successfully.
Prior to 2021, the winners in 2020 (Sottsass) came from stall 4 and in 2019 (Waldgeist) started from the 3 berth. Enable’s two Arc wins in 2017 and 2018 came from stalls 2 and 6, while since 2012 Solemia (6) and Treve (3) were other low-drawn winners.
Okay, in the order of being transparent, Golden Horn won in 2015 from stall 14 and Found in 2016 from 12, but with 15 of the last 20 Arc winners hailing from stalls 8 or lower it would be foolish to ignore this stat.
We Can Take The Arc Draw Trend Even Further
Oh, for the braver punters out there, you can whittle down the runners even more if you wanted as 14 of the last 20 (70%) winners actually came from stalls 6 or lower – including 5 of the last 6 successful horses.
Okay, So Who Are The Horses Drawn 8 Or Lower

Top Three In The Arc Betting Are Drawn Low
The ‘good news’ for punters that have already sided with the well-fancied trio at the head of the betting – Luxembourg, Vadeni and Alpinista – is that they’ve all been handed tidy draws in 8 or lower.
We’ve also got the Irish Derby winner Westover coming in with stall 7, plus some potentially lively outsiders in Al Hakeem, Deep Bond, Mendocino and Do Deuce that have been handed a slightly better chance now they’ve been given a low berth.
Last Year’s Winner Torquator Tasso Has Been Handed Draw 18
The shock 2021 Arc winner, Torquator Tasso, won the race last year from stall 12, so did show he’s capable of defying this draw trend. However, this time he’s 6 horses wider with stall 18 to start and surely that’s going to be a big ask.
Yes, he’ll have the magic hands of Frankie Dettori, who is the most-winning jockey in this race with 6 past successes, but you just feel that they will either use up too much energy early on to get a better position, or failing that will likely need plenty of luck in-running.
Other well-fancied runners drawn in double-figures are Onesto (11) and the Japanese raider Titleholder (10).
DID YOU KNOW? Trainer Andre Fabre has won the Prix de l’ Arc de Triomphe 8 times – he runs Mare Australis.
