Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2022 Stat Attack: Just 2 Winners Aged 5+ Since 1989
31 Of The Last 33 (94%) Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Winners Aged 3 or 4 Years-Old
The Arc age trend that’s produced 94% of winners since 1989 is simple too hard to ignore.
We’ve seen 31 of the last 33 Arc winners aged 3 or 4 years-old, with only two winning 5 year-olds over that period – Marienbard (2022) and Waldgeist (2019).
Prior to that, you have to go back to 1988 (Tony Bin) and then as far back as 1975 (Star Appeal) to find the last 5 year-old winners.
Just 4 Winning 5 Year-Olds Since 1948
If we add those four horses together, you actually have to trawl right back to 1947 to find the next 5 year-old Arc winner – meaning since 1948 the Longchamp race has only produced four winners aged 5! Plus, you also have to go back to 1932 to see the last winner aged 6+.
3 and 4 Year-Olds Have Dominated The Arc
So, with the poor record of the 5 year-olds this has meant the race has been littered with winners aged 3 or 4. The split 20 years reads:
- 5 year-old Winners: 2
- 4 year-old Winners: 7
- 3 year-old Winners: 11
Okay, So Who Are The 2022 Arc Horses Aged 5+ To Ignore
Here is a list of horses aged 5 or older entered to run in the 2022 Arc – since 1989, only two horses aged 5+ have won the race, with 31 of the last 33 Arc winners aged 3 or 4!
- ALPINISTA (Aged 5) @ 5/1 with 888Sport
