Peterborough Chase Runners 2023: Past Winner First Flow Back For More
The Peterborough Chase 2023 will see a maximum of six runners heading to post for the biggest race on the Huntingdon horse racing calendar each season.
However, the Peterborough Chase runners could easily reduce as the classy Edwardstone is also entered in Saturday’s Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown. We’ll, therefore, have to see if his trainer Alan King runs him there as he’ll, of course, not contest both races. If he goes here, then would be the big fancy with the best UK horse racing betting sites.
We will certainly see the 2021 Peterborough Chase winner First Flow though, who is back for more (watch below). Now 11 years-old this Kim Bailey runner was also third in the race 12 months ago and has warmed up for this with a fair second at Ascot to a useful sort in Boothill. He acts well in soft ground and even though he’s not won a race since winning this in 2021 and is not getting any younger, is a very consistent chaser.
From his 19 runs over fences has won eight times and only been out of the top three on three occasions.
Old Roan Chase Winner Heading To Huntingdon
Al Dancer is another of the older horses running as the 10 year-old from the Sam Thomas camp has also been entered. This grey was a good winner at Chepstow on his first run back in October and then ran a decent third in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree.
However, the horse that beat him that day at the Liverpool track was Jetoile and he’s also an intended Peterborough Chase runner. This Ryan Potter-trained 8 year-old has won this last three now and is a fast-improving chaser that also has form on all ground types. He looks a big player here.
Solo will represent last year’s winning trainer and owner Paul Nicholls and Johnny de la Hey. He’ll come here off the back of a silver in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter and is not without a chance according to the best UK betting sites, but will be the lowest-rated horse in the field.
Willie Mullins Could Send Janidil Over From Ireland
The final runner in the Peterborough Chase field is the most interesting – Janidil, who comes over from the Willie Mullins yard in Ireland. This JP McManus runner is a top-rated 161 chaser that has contested the last two Ryanair Chases at the Cheltenham Festival.
He returned last month with a respectable second to the classy Allaho, who is a big fancy for the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day at Kempton, and on that form would be a big player here.
Janidil will be the first Irish Peterborough Chase runner since One Cool Cookie ran 4th in the 2008 renewal behind the popular grey Monet’s Garden.

Peterborough Chase 2023 Tip: Janidil To Make Long Trip Over Pay-Off
This season’s Old Roan Chase winner Jetoile can go well and looks a chaser on the up, while the 2021 winner of this race First Flow is sure to figure in a few each-way Peterborough Chase tips.
Of course, we’ll have to see what happens with Edwardstone. If he bypasses Saturday’s Tingle Creek to run here, then he’ll be a big Peterborough Chase tip too.
But the call is for the Willie Mullins-trained JANIDIL to make the trip over worthwhile.
This 9 year-old ran well for much of the way in the Clonmel Oil Chase last month (watch below) and certainly wasn’t disgraced in going down 9-lengths to the useful Allaho that day. He’ll be better for the run with that coming off a 213-day break and will be fine in the softer/heavy ground.
Janidil would also be the first winner at Huntingdon for trainer Willie Mullins.
Jetoile can make the selection work for the prize. While, despite being the lowest-rated in the field, Solo is also expected to run well for last year’s winning connections.
